Sailors can take classes online during their free time, but they really only have time for one or two at a time. There are some online universities that specialize in military students, to allow for deployments and time spent unable to contact the school to turn in homework, but it is slow going.
If they get high enough grades in their A/C schools, and the Navy needs a certain specialty, occasionally the Navy will send a sailor to college (on their dime) to get a degree. However, the nursing program is a very specific Navy officer program, which requires an extensive application process.
Almost all sailors are allowed at least 10 days leave between their final school and reporting to their first duty station, so yes, she will have "moving leave."
I don't know much about speech pathology and the medical side of the Navy, and the way their specialties work.
@ALWAYSDADDYSLILEGIRL: I know that they are allowed to pursue a college degree online while there...but my son registered to start this (he has a 2 yr and wanted to work on his batchelors) and is being discouraged by the "powers that be now" at his Command to instead work on his Navy studies for promotional opportunities, etc. I agreed with them. They must be promoted to stay in the Navy now...don't know if you all knew that. But they will not be allowed to re-enlist if they are not promoted. So...I agreed that he needs to work on his Navy studies now and put off the batchelor's degree. But there are online educational opportunities for them.
Arwen probably will have more info on this too.
Good Morning everyone. I hope you all get a nice long letter today and maybe even a phone call :) Arwen- I have a question for you. My sailor finished C-school in December. She is married, her husband is also in the navy and just about to finish A-school. He will be joining her in VA in a couple of weeks. She just rented an apartment and moves in the end of the month. She has a bunch of furniture in our basement that we have been collecting and holding for them. Do you think she will be able to get moving leave so she can come home and get all this stuff or will it be up to us to take it too her? Thanks, so much for your knowledge.
I am working on the ribbons for this group to wear to PIR and will be mailing them out in a few days. If you ordered ribbons and have not sent your payment to me please do so asap. Thanks everyone, have a great day and an awesome weekend.
I almost forgot to ask my question to the most knowledge. My daughter inlisted for 8yrs, The she went in for AECF - FCs and ET. Stays in Chicago for six months for A school. My question is at this time when she is done with A school do they give them opportunity to persue other education fields. Her main goal is to be an RN.
Oh my goodness, I was looking at the temp in Chicago, An I feel sooo bad for my California Girl.... But I bet she gets to march in the snow which I think she is lovin right now :)
28days to go......
