Now is a good time to start thinking about the next step: A school.
There are A-school groups for most schools. Many are grouped by which base they are on. If your recruit will be a CT or IT, rescue swimmer, or one of many aviation mechanic jobs, you will go to the Pensacola group. There is a group for schools in Great Lakes, and in San Antonio, etc.
Every base has different rules for how long they will be in Phase I, II and III (earning civilian clothes, off-base privileges, and fewer musters), and whether you can visit, how long they will be in holding and more. The moms and wives in these groups can help you with these questions.
You can also join your recruits' rating group, but that deals mostly with life in the fleet, promotions, etc, not schools.
I got a call!!! Last night, my son called the house and we weren't home!! He spoke to his siblings and then quickly called my cell phone... it was quite a full-circle moment for me as I was currently at the celebration of my husbands' 23 years in the USMC, a retirement event thrown by his Pentagon colleagues!
We had a wonderful conversation and my SR sounded WONDERFUL! He talked about what a great time he was having at RTC and how he was looking forward to seeing us all at graduation... he also requested we bring the XBOX 360 to the Navy Lodge for his RTC grad liberty!! I am packing it up right now, to the chagrin of his siblings! lol
Hello Ladies! I just had to join this group briefly! February 15th will be my son's 3rd year anniversary of his PIR. When I picked him up on the Sunday for breakfast before I was to fly home - he told me that they had Monday off because it was President's Day! I had to pay and change all my plans (recheck into the hotel), When he asked me to please stay and he would help pay for all the changes, I just couldn't turn him down!!! Just a heads up because your PIR is the Friday before President's Day this year!
Congratulations!!!
PS - I saw some talk about Master at Arms. Be sure and check out our groups for MA's. We have one for A school in San Antonio with lots of good information in it and another for just Master at Arms.
PSS - If any of you are from TEXAS, don't forget to join our group there!
and - one more!! Join Molly's Adopt a Sailor! AMAZING group of moms doing some AMAZING things! We won $50,000 from the Pepsi Refresh year - just for sending things to our troops!!!
Need any help - all these groups are here on Gilligan's Isle (oops, I mean navyformoms.com)
