Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

No worries,MountainMama. They all get homesick...some just don't mention it because they don't want to worry their families...or they want to pretend like they aren't! Very normal for them to be homesick and now be appreciating more than ever all of their family members!

Yes, NTC (Great Lakes A school) also has liberty on Monday.
The pictures Jessica posted includes both blue and khaki variations. Your sailors will wear the khaki type. The blue variation was a prototype that was dropped.
Your sailors will wear the dress blues (black wool) uniform on Friday, and the khaki "Service Uniform" on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

We got another set of letters and a phone call today!
We had to share the phone time with his gf, so I didnt get to talk to him too long, but long enough for him to tell me how great he's doing! It is such a relief to hear the confidence in his voice! He says there have been some rough times, but he passed PFA and swim tests on the first try, and did the Polar Bear dip!
4 weeks down, 5 to go!

It sounds like everyone's SR is doing great. Is mine the only one who is still REALLY homesick? He doesn't complain about boot camp...says he's doing well, but misses his family TERRIBLY. Should I worry at this stage?

Got the phone call and letter 1/12 from my son on Ship 03 Div 080. The call was 30 minutes. I was so happy. Yes I agree that Thursday's are happy days. He seemed a little homesick but doing good otherwise.

Received a call from my son tonight!! (Ship 04, Div 805) He sounded great and it was so wonderful to talk with him.
JessicaB-Sailor Mom - you are absolutely right - I will be smiling and grinning for the next few days!
Thank you to everyone who posts their comments. It is great to have such a supportive group. I have learned so much from all of you. I'm off to write more letters.

Just got off the phone with my son!! He only had 30 minutes, but it was so good to hear his voice. He is doing great and seems to like it. Apparently he has become an expert laundry folder and boot shiner ; ). Aaand, he didn't have to get his wisdom teeth out LOL. To all of you that are expecting calls, enjoy your time "with" your SRs.

I got a call too. Yes, I think I will be smiling and feeling much better now!! So relieved to hear how he's handling things. (Note to self: Remember this moment and when I think I need to worry....remember I don't!!)
