I just created a Facebook group for anyone that would like to join. It is called N4M PIR 2/18/2011

The link is http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_100255306719006

From what I understand the link won't work from here so you will have to copy and paste it in your browser.

The group is for anyone that would like another place to chat. I did make the group private so no one (such as RDCs) will be able to see the comments other than the members of the group.

MountainMama, from what everyone has been saying (and my spastic math), it seems like the divisions are getting their "Week 3" phone call on our around Day 3-1.  Do you know what day your son's division started training?  What day was their Day 1-1?  Do you know?  If so, count 15 days from then and that SEEMS to be a close guess to the date of the biggie phone call.  My son's division had their Day 1-1 on 12/29 and they're getting their phone call on 1/13, reportedly.

There is a lot of discussion in other groups about ID's needed to get on base. If you have someone going with you to PIR who is 13 or older they will need a state issued ID. You can get these at the DMV if the person doesn't have a driver license. Just remember in most states these are no longer printed at the DMV. They take the picture then it comes in the mail 2 to 3 weeks later. So if you are going to need to have this done it would be a good idea to go ahead and do it now.

kandio - my son wrote last week that he "heard" that they would get to call on the 10th or the 12th.  I didn't get a call Monday, so maybe we will both get a call today.  'm a nervous wreck this week as well.  Maybe it just hits every other week or something.  It been over a month since I've had a chance to talk to him.  If I could just get a nice long call, I think I can make it another month.

DebBee, yeah, it's been 20 years since I last got orders myself. At first I had to relearn some of it, but after more than a year of going through the process with my son, I have remembered or relearned most of it. The hardest part is learning what has changed. So much of the Navy is exactly as I remember it, but some parts are almost unrecognizably different.

Oh wow.  I was just doing some housework and listening to an oldies station.  "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" came on the radio and I broke down.  That's the ringtone I have for him.  I miss hearing it.  He always called me a lot.  I hope and pray I get a phone call today.  I NEED to hear his voice!

Oh, and also, some Friday Grad and Go sailors DO fly out to other cities. The Navy keeps saying that they don't, that they quit that about 18 months ago, but it's not true. Several N4M parents in the last few months have reported that their  sailors were GnG on Friday, and were put on the plane immediately after PIR.

Several of those from my son's PIR group had to rush from PIR to the airport to meet their sailor. One of them even got on the next flight to follow her kid to the A-school. She had a lot more money that I do, LOL.

Remember, no one is stopping you from visiting your sailors in A-school instead of PIR, its worth it if your sailor is a Friday GnG. Fifteen minutes with my sailor would NOT have been good enough for me!

Okay - grad and go has nothing to do with where they are going, or what A school they will be attending.

Grad and go sailors are:

1) those in the first two or four divisions, whose orders and travel plans are already finished before PIR. They can't issue orders or make flight arrangements until the recruits have passed their PFT and Battlestations, and it takes time to process 1,000 or more sets of orders.

2) those whose schools will start on Monday and absolutely must be there before the weekend is over

3) those who the Navy arbitrarily decides need to be out of barracks before the weekend. There are always a few who are GnG for no apparent reason.

The vast majority of Great Lakes A school recruits are NOT grad and go.
