Stacie, when I was at PIR a year ago, it was about 35-40 degrees during the day and about 15-20 at night. It was clear Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday it started snowing at about noon. We got about two inches of snow by the next morning. The streets were nice and clear (good snowplow men) all the way to the airport.
Most of the sidewalks were clear, but there was snow piled on a lot of corners and other places.
shetaz: BattleStations doesn't last 36 hours....just about 12 (overnight). However, what he probably meant is that they are AWAKE for 36 hours....true....because they can't go to sleep until about 8 pm on the day they finish Battlestations (in the early morning is the capping ceremony when they trade their recruit caps for their sailor caps...and graduate!).
I will be posting Battlestations info in a discussion group on here as it get closer. For those who want to read it now, go to PIR 1/14, 1/21, or 1/28 and read the Battlestations discussion group on there.
Ahhhhh....the Grad N Go confusion. Here's the scoop on that:
Only your recruit knows if he/she is GradNGo. Although an entire lower number divisions can be GradNGo, that is not always the case. So ask your recruit.
Secondly, RTC considers GradNGo's the ones who move over to GL A School right after PIR. However, don't you find it interesting that your recruits are telling you that they are GradNGo and yet leaving on Sat and NOT going to GL? Yep, happened when my son was there too last Feb. They are told that they are GradNGo, as you have found out.
On this site, we have always separated the GradNGos from the others and we determined that you were GradNGo if your recruit was moving off RTC within 24 hours of PIR. So when we say GradNGo on here, that is what we mean. Sometimes we may use the term "Sat. GradNGo" but still GradNGo to us. Some recruits, even though flying to other A Schools, will stay at RTC for several days before leaving. They obviously are not GradNGos.
Remember, ladies...for those of you with Sat. GradNGos, plan to go to the airport to visit with them until they leave. You can try to get a military gate pass so you can stay at the gate with them also (bring ID). You can meet up with them at the USO centers at the airports (these are before you pass through security).
Make sure you know which airport your sailor is leaving from. Also, if they happen to be on a charter plane, you cannot see them at the airport. But for those on domestic flights, this is the time to meet them and hand off their cells/laptops/few civilian clothes (they can't wear yet at A School but will have when they can).
