AMEN on the lessons of bootcamp, Mountain Mama! They do learn an awful lot there. I was very impressed when seeing my son after PIR.
And as far as recruits screwing up and causing the division to lose calls, etc...they don't have to do much to screw up. My son said that once, one of his shipmates forgot to wear his bathoom thongs when heading into the bathroom...he got in lots of trouble...not sure if the division did, but they can in the beginning for doing/not doing small things...nothing bad. It is all part of the plan to get them to focus, pay attention, and learn...because in the fleet, that can be the difference in life and death. The things my son shared with me after bc that recruits got in trouble for....no big things but rather silly things....the whole division paid the price. One time, the division got in trouble (2 hours of IT) for spraying each other as they were cleaning the ktichen. He said it only involved about 3 recruits, but the whole division paid the price. They learn pretty early on that they need to focus, listen, be serious, and follow orders.
Yay, Purplemom!
My SR said the food wasn't good and wasn't bad either. He compared it to school cafeteria food.
DebBee,
That was the one thing he wasn't looking forward to was the food going into this whole thing. He heard it was not very good from the get go. Living in Europe my kids eat very little fast food or short order type food. It is just way too expensive here and for the same price you can get a really yummy sit down meal. I do think it is funny to see some kids say the food is awful while other kids think the food is good. Shows how different all the kiddos can be.
Finally, Finally, Finally...2 letters arrived in the mail today. Have I said enough how much I hate having to wait for mail to make its way all the way across the Atlantic. He sounds good. Says he is getting enough sleep and that life isn't so bad. He said the food is pretty bad though. He really misses all his brothers and sisters and said he was feeling pretty homesick on Christmas.
It really made an otherwise cruddy day today great to get the letters.
Yea MountainMama! You're so eloquent and summed up exactly what was in my head. :D I'm so glad we have this place to prop us back up when we start slipping into worry-ville.
As for "The Prince" it's an old squishy name (along with "Princie") that I've been using instead of his name on this forum. And when we all come together in February, I'm very SURE he will be grateful to know I've shared it with all of you!! LOLOLOL!!
