Does anyone know if it's possible to take the metro-train to and from bootcamp into Chicago? Also does anyone know if that would be the best form of transportation while there? Can you get to and from the hotels pretty easy or is it a pain? Not too sure about driving in the snow. Don't get that much here in Texas..LOL

What was the original address? I am curious now to see if the same thing has happened! Do you know why they switched? When do they get an hour long phone call.

My boyfriend called, tough he only got a few minutes to call his mom, dad, and I. It was so great though to hear his voice. I got 7 minutes with him. it was the best 7 minutes ever.

Oh, my son, Chris, was at Great Lakes for a full 10 weeks last year, and he was not set back. He arrived on Dec. 16, Did Battlestations on Feb. 12, PIR'd on Feb. 19, and finally left for his A school on Feb 24. He was not held back at all, it's just the crazy holiday schedule.
Comment by Arwen on January 1, 2011 at 5:42pm

Navywife 31 and wife64, for most of these guys, they will spend a full two weeks in processing, so their third week phone calls will come after they've been there for about 5 weeks.

Regarding a division still not yet in training days, that's just strange. The holiday schedule gets everyone out of sync anyway, it sounds like, with a two large PIR groups forming over the holidays, it's worse this year than last. The good news here is that he said they are already starting weapons and classroom training, so they won't be held back.

The first recruits for 2011 will be leaving for MEPS tomorrow, so by Tuesday there will finally be some recruits behind them in training. It always feels good to recruits when there is someone there who knows less than they do, a group they can look at and say "were we ever that bad?"

Wife 64:  I just looked at a calendar....sounds like they may still be in processing days, especially since they have not done the bank info yet.  They would have lost time with the holiday stand down, etc.  My son was there this time last year...but PIRed a couple of weeks before you all do.  He was there 9.5 weeks.  Actually 10.5 weeks, but he got setback a week....So looking at it like he arrived Nov 30th, he was there 9.5 weeks from then until PIR. The holidays make their time there longer.
