I got this today and thought it applied all too well:

I am really confused by some of the information you all have heard about Grad and Go. From my experience with my daughter who had PIR July 23 any of them can be Grad and Go. It doesn't matter what city they are going to. I have never heard of only getting to see them for 15 minutes. Our daughter was a Grad and Go and was leaving on a chartered flight. We had less time with her than any other families had with their sailors (other than the 160 sailors who were also on the Chartered flight). If they are going to A-school in a different city and are Grad and Go you will see them for a few min after PIR and then they go to their ship to pic up their pictures and they come back to you. We waited in the parking lot near the church for our sailor. We then were able to leave the base with her. We went to the hotel for a little while and talked and hung out. We then went to lunch, then to the mall, and after that we went out to dinner and then back to the hotel. We took her back to the base at 7:30 and went to the NEX and bought some souvenirs. We had her for almost 8 hours that day. On Saturday you can meet them at the airport and hang out with them until time for their flight. Sometimes that could be an hour or two and sometimes it could be 5 or 6 hours or even longer. Especially in the winter with bad weather and flight delays. If they are leaving on a chartered flight you won't see them at the airport. They go straight from the base to the jet. This doesn't happen very often. I have been on this site since April and have only heard of it happening 1 time and that was when it happened to my daughter. If they are grad and go and staying in GL for A-school then you see them for a few min and then they have to move all their stuff to the other base across the street. This takes 4 or 5 hours. After they get everything moved they call you to come pick them up. You get them the rest of the day, all day on Saturday and all day on Sunday. Some of them will get to stay with you for the whole weekend including nights. They may have a short watch at some point during the weekend but as soon as it is over you pick them back up.
I will add this: My daughter was Grad and Go, left on that chartered flight and we only had her for 7 or 8 hours total. I drove the whole way from NC, it took 16 hours to get there and I drove the whole way back which due to flooding in Chicago took 18 hours to get back home. IT WAS WORTH IT. The PIR was amazing, I would not have missed it for the world and if I had it to do again, knowing I would only have a few hours with her I would still go. I hope this helps.
