Got my letter yesterday. My son is Ship 03 Div 082. My husband ran to the post office at 11:30 last night to send out the first batch of letters I've been writing. I am confused, I know that he can only write on Sundays, he confirmed that in the little note he wrote on the form letter. My question is, when does HE receive mail? Do they have mail call every day or do they only get their mail on certain days?

I'm learning a lot on this website. When he left for bc, I knew more than he did. He didn't want to know, so I didn't share... he was nervous/terrified as it was, couldn't see making it worse. All his life, I have been told things on a "need to know only basis". Including that he had been seriously considering that he would take the military road in life. He had been figuring on the military for 3 years!

Do the RDCs open the envelopes? My cousin who's 5 and my sister who's 11 sent him pictures they drew. I hope that doesn't get him in trouble.

You can send a calling card. I actually send several, just in case.

Be sure that any envelopes you send are PLAIN WHITE. Do not send anything that will get the RDCs attention, such as colored envelopes, oversize envelopes, musical cards, stickers, drawings (on the envelope), perfume, etc. RDCs take a cruel delight in torturing any poor recruit who gets something that stands out.

for phone cards just make sure you get one that can be used from pay phones. I got an AT&T card from wal-mart but they have some that are made for pay as you go phones and those won't work. Most of them charge 35 min for each call made from a pay phone so if your SR call's you and gets no answer and has to call back or calls mom then dad or girlfriend/boyfriend etc it can use the min up quickly so get one with a lot of mins on it. They can also buy them there at the NEX but they don't always have time or permission to go and buy things.

Try not to worry, adamsmom. It is still early and I'm guessing that form letter will be here in the next week...but with Christmas mail, they may take a bit longer right now.  Remember, in bc...NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!  But I know you want his address and PIR date...of course...it's coming!
Comment by Arwen on December 22, 2010 at 2:03pm
Because of the long hold the Feb 18 PIR group goes through, the 3rd week phone call typically comes in their 5th week at boot camp. Last year the calls came on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
