ProudMom:   Don't worry...the letters will still get there even without the RTC line in them.  The form letter is usually mailed within the first week or so after they arrive.  Don't worry that he doesn't like it now and is homesick, etc....most of them are.  It gets better!  Just takes a while.  Just keep sending the encouraging letters that you are!

I would say that the form letter is written in the first 2 or 3 days, probably before they have even slept.

Oh my gosh...thank you Cody's Mom...the same thing happened to us.  Our son's recruiter gave us the address, and left OUT the Recruit Training Command line.  We've sent soooo many letters.  We just got our son's form letter with his graduation date, etc., AND that RTC line (which made me panick!), and our son's little "message" to us at the bottom.  Horrible!  He's miserable, or at least he was when he wrote that first note.  Does anyone know how many days in they actually write THAT letter (the one that comes with the graduation date and pass information)?  He is clearly missing the love and affection from home!  But he said he's getting through it!  I can't wait to see him in March...and I just pray that he's getting all the letters we've all been sending WITHOUT the one line.  Ugh.

I love this group...this group has literally saved my sanity!  Thank you ALL!

I forgot which Navy Mom suggested the Jokes to send to the recruits, but thank you!  They cheered me up just sending them.  Thank you Navy Moms! Here is just one I found :)

Quizzing a young naval student

The grizzled old sea captain was quizzing a young naval student. “What steps would you
take if a sudden storm came up on the starboard?”

“I'd throw out an anchor, sir.”

“What would you do if another storm sprang up aft?”

“I'd throw out another anchor, sir.”

“But what if a third storm sprang up forward?”

“I'd throw out another anchor, captain.”

“Just a minute, son. Where in the world are you getting all these anchors?”

“From the same place you're getting all your storms, sir.”

TOO FUNNY, frandea!

YMM:  So glad that you are burning the blue candles.  Such a special way to honor our recruits/sailors.  Many also light them at the beginning of BattleStations and keep them lit until all are sailors.  LOVE the blue candles.

Hoping for lots of letters arriving for you all this week!

Lala, I ran outside today and asked my mother in law if the mail had come yet...she looked at me like I was nuts and didn't say anything and I looked back and raised an eyebrow. She said, "Honey, it's Sunday..."

haha! YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THE MAIL DOESN'T RUN ON SUNDAY EVEN WHEN MY HUSBAND IS AT BOOTCAMP?! THE NERVE OF THESE PEOPLE! ;)

Hi, I read about the Blue Candle Lighting event that was done during the end of last year. I think that it's a wonderful idea with powerful symbolism, so I bought some blue candles yesterday and plan to keep one lit until we leave for PIR. It feels great to do this for my son and his fellow SR's.

momsnavyman, I feel the same way and am anxiously waiting for that first letter. It's Sunday, so I have been imagining my son sitting on his bunk writing a letter to us. Maybe he'll sense my thoughts and get writing! LOL!
