Thanks for the info. I live in WI and the weather has been brutal. My son is use to the cold, but even for him -25 is a little too cold.

Jean- not very much. Sometimes they may have to shovel snow but not often. Most if not all of their training is done indoors. They are outside to go to different buildings, the NEX, etc but they are kept bundled up with a heavy wool coat and a ski mask. I am sure some of them wish they had more time outdoors, especially in warmer weather.

Does anyone know how much time the recruits have to spend outside?

Hapsmom , Since you have the ship and Div of your son you can call the Public Affairs Office 1-847-688-2405 and they can give you the information you need.  I got the password from them when there was a mistake on our PIR date.  It is worth a try.  Good Luck

Alisonsailormom,

He didn't say anything specific about the division. He said the beautiful snow was the only great thing there but it is gradually getting better. He sounded like he was in good spiritis. Even added a note to tell my husband to wash his truck. lol

Sue M, AlisonSailorMom and Mollie,

Got my son's form letter yesterday... FINALLY!  It was so great to hear from him even if it was only a few lines.  He said he was doing fine and that there is "some crazy stuff up here - haha".  Good to know he hasn't lost his sense of humor.  Hope you are all doing well.  Maybe we'll get some real letters soon.

HapsMom, This experience we are all going through is so challenging at times. I am sorry that your son's gf is making it more difficult for you. Hang in there!

I hear ya, HapsMom...hoping for that for you too.  And SOON!

The GF is not my biggest fan.  If I don't hear something by Monday, I probably will call her.  She's not interested in sharing.  So I have avoided contacting her to avoid getting myself upset.  Just hoping he will get a letter from me that might inspire him to encourage her to make the contact.  Any word is better than nothing at all.
