So I don't know whether or not to drive or fly or go by train. I currently live in Texas and the drive is over 1000 miles and about 17 hours. The tricky part is I have a new born and I am worried about both germs and prices. I need to bring so many things for the baby would it be better just to load up and drive? I have checked on the prices for a train ticket and to get a round trip it will be a little over $650, I haven't looked at plane tickets but I have done the math and the gas for there and back will only be $300 at most. I guess my question is, would it be difficult to drive that far with a 4 month old? If so what other options do I have? Help! Needless to say I don't have much experience with traveling. I am a young mother and wife.

I would think it is worth it if you are not planning on going to malls and all that stuff anyway. You usually take them back by 7:30 so you could have several hours at home with your sailor. I think the weather would play a big role in it too. You don't want to risk not getting back on time. Not only will they loose liberty for the next day or 2 but the rest of their division can loose it as well.

Hey I need some advice. I'll be coming in to GL from about 23 miles away and we're just thinking about driving home and staying there for a couple of hours instead of attempting to get a hotel room. How long does it take to get out of the gate at GL after PIR; and is it worth it to drive the 40 minutes and then drive back?

I booked our hotel for PIR. Be sure to call the hotels you are interested in and ask if they have a special rate for families attending a Navy graduation. Every one I checked was up to $10 less per night than Priceline, Expedia, or the hotel's website. I was told by a Marriott reservations employee that they have a limited number of rooms/suites that they will book at the special rate. She urged me to make my reservations today.

Hi kylesmom! Good to see another Div 95 mom. I actually want to know what both of you hear from your kids when you get the form letter - mine said: :" everything is okay here."  Not much to go on but okay is okay.

btw all, I am not sure where I first saw this web page but it's got a schedule of sorts of what the SRs will be doing week to week. I might have seen it somewhere in the Boot Camp Moms group.   This is not an official navy site, but I think it's accurate: http://hubpages.com/hub/US-Navy-Boot-Camp

kylesmom,

I still haven't received my letter either. I go the box on Monday and was so hoping the letter would be here today. Now hoping it will be here tomorrow...

Hi Redfly, My son left Jan. 11.  I got the box last Friday.  My son absentmindedly sent his prepaid phone cards back to me in his box!  I'll be sending them back to him in his letter tomorrow now that I have the address from his recruiter.

Kylesmom, when did your son leave for bc?  My son left on January 10.  I received the box but no form letter yet..

Hey Mollie and Alison,

I just found out from my son's recruiter that he is on Ship 12 Div. 095 as well.  Still haven't gotten my letter though.  It's really frustrating reading about all of the other mom's that have gotten their letters.  Thanks for all the great info on this site everyone!  It's really been helpful.
