Hi all!  I thought this might be a good way for us to connect!  So took the advice of some other moms.  Hopefully we can get information on when we start receiving calls and letters and other info!

Yes, you are correct, Truth4Kids.  The SRs are given a chance to complete a form at bootcamp that will be submitted to their local newspaper.  If they don't do it, the info won't get in there. It has to come from the Navy with your SR's permission.  I found this out the hard way as my son didn't complete the form when he was there   :-(

When do the graduation announcements come out in our local newspapers? I think the Navy submits info and picture, right?

Mollie is correct about that gate pass not be needed if arriving at PIR by shuttle.  Gate pass gets your vehicle access to the base.  However, I kept a copy of the gate pass in my purse....just in case because maybe I was a bit over the edge by then  :-)  ....even though I took the shuttle.  And, yes, AnthonysMom...you are correct.  You need that pass to drive him onto the base after liberty.  Otherwise he has to walk from the front gate.

Not sure they post them, Mollie. We usually hear by way of the winners calling home!

I am anxious to hear news of the Captain's Cup winners today. Don't they usually post those on the Recruit Training Command facebook page?

FUNNY!!! My son requests that I bring Charmin Ultra Soft for him to use while on Liberty.

Thank you, and yes, I've heard that on the shuttle you don't need a gate pass, but he's grad and go, so I'd like to be able to drop him off on the base when we're done visiting...

If you're going to PIR on a shuttle, you don't need a gate pass.
Comment by YMM (Ship 12 Div 98) on March 5, 2011 at 11:56am

Anthony'sMom, I thought that everyone entering RTC had to have a Gate Pass, but someone (diannep?) wrote that you only need the pass if you are driving a car. If that is correct, you could take a taxi or shuttle to PIR.

Ladies, please comment if you know for sure that you don't need to have a Gate Pass to enter RTC for PIR if you are dropped off by a taxi or shuttle.

I burn a blue candle every day and pray for all the SR's. Hang on to the mantra, "No news is good news!" Many have written on N4M that SR's have to call home if their graduation is delayed. I have not received any calls since the "I'm here" call, so I understand your concern. I just hope my SR does call on Monday after Battlestations! Stay Strong!

He hasn't given me any reason that he might be delayed...That's why I'm sick with worry! If he just decided to go to sleep instead of calling, he'll be the one at PIR with a BLACK EYE!!! lol!
