PIR was absolutely wonderful....so filled with Pride for all of the Sailors...just took Josh back to the base and can't wait for tomorrow...we just sat and got caught up today with him...and he contacted alot of his friends.

Well Ladies, I just got to work and looked at the clock. PIR started for you all 40 min. ago. Just thinking of you all. Got the chills just thinking how you all are doing and thinking about when that big door opens. Congrats ladies. Today is my sisters 40th so I will be out tonight but I am sure I won't hear from many of you anyway. Have fun and I will check back later. Deanna

Went and saw the base WOW! I can't stop crying tonight. I have been strong so log, but now he is right here and I can't see him! I really dont know how much more of this I can take! I want my husband back :(

Is he staying on at Great Lakes for A School? If not, did he tell you how long he has before he flies out to his A School? The only ones who can't come back with you are the ones who have "watch" scheduled (but they try not to do that to ones who have family there) or if they are staying on at GL and have to move their things over there. Then you pick him up several hours later. Your mom won't feel rushed. Don't worry. This will be such a wonderful experience for her and she will get to give that grandson of hers many hugs! Make sure you check with your hotel front desk to see if you need to sign up for a shuttle. Ask the shuttle driver in the morning about the return times. There were alot of shuttles in the parking lot when we left the base after PIR at around 11:45.

Dianne, thank you, thank you, thank you! So just take the shuttle, sit in his section and look for him afterwards. Right? Will he for sure get to come back with us? I guess only he knows. I just dont want mom to feel rushed.

Take the early shuttle. As early as you can. The PIR doesn't start until 9. They will call "liberty" at the end of the ceremony. Your sailor will be right in front of you on the hangar floor there. You walk down the bleachers and meet him. It is easy...a bit chaotic at first, but everyone finds their sailor! Make sure to seat in his division section (marked with his number and honor guard standing in front).
Comment by diannep on April 22, 2010 at 9:38pm
cheri: That is not a problem, I promise you that. We didn't leave the base until over an hour after PIR. Tell her not to worry. The shuttles are actually taxis, by the way. They don't want you all staying on the base long. You will find your son in the hangar, he will return to his ship to get his pictures, and you will leave. I promise you...the shuttle is so much easier!
