maussie64, I read back a few comments and found your info. We are coming from Pittsburgh Pa. We will be driving. It is about 8 hours for us. The days seem to get longer. I agree with Susie1215 it is not like sending them off to college. I have sent two boys off , you talk to them everyday , they bring their laundry and friends home THEN clean out the pantry leave and do the same thing the next weekend. . I can live with not seeing my sailor for a year or more I just want to talk with him and know he is OK.

Hi There,
My son is Ship 10 Div 163. I am from the St Louis Area and am considering taking a train or renting a car. We cant afford to fly. Does anyone know anything about staying at the navy lodge? We are also looking for cheap hotels close by. Any info is greatly appreciated.
I want to say hi to Mike's mom, I see your son is in same ship & div as mine!
Have a great day!

I booked a one bedroom suite at the Residence Inn in Waukegan. My husband and I get the bedroom. Son gets the couch (if we bring him).
Full breakfast and an outside cab company provides shuttle service to PIR for 3.00 each way per person.

If PIR was during summer vacation or even spring break I would have been more than willing. But, that is too much school for my son to miss.

My husband wanted to drive too. From so Cal! Only 2012 miles. LOL. Actually, I would be up for it if it didn't mean that my seventh grader would miss so much school.
I just had a thought about shuttles.... If our grads are free after graduation(until 8:00 pm, I think), would they be able to get on the shuttle and ride it back to the hotel with us to get the car? I wold hate to have to say goodbye and leave her there.
