I agree with Ruth, the first few weeks of boot camp are the hardest, I was there in 82 it got better for us after work week, which was probably about half way through. All you can do is remind them it will be over before they know it, once they get to there schools it will be a whole lot better. I told my son before he left if I could do it at 17 he can do it now, hopefully he keeps telling himself that.

ITJays mom - I'm the same way we went away for the weekend and even though I knew we wouldn't get a phone call I told my husband he was going to be in trouble if one came through!

Don't be too discouraged if the letter isn't totally positive. The Navy tears them down to build them back up. You'll be so proud of them and the changes in May!

When you send pictures, try to copy as many as you can on paper.  It's easier for them to store printer paper and you can scan a bunch of one page too.

My dtr asked for pictures also.  Need to make that a priority!

I can't wait to get my first letter. I feel like some love struck teenager running to the mailbox every day looking for my letter.

She mentioned the colors and told me they got black which is the worst and not good.  She indicated it was very bad.  She mentioned drill as well that it was her favorite part and she is a drill leader or something.  She gets to be at the front.  She loved drill in HS so that doesn't surprise me.  My concern is her knee.  It needs to heal so she can keep going.  I don't want her to give up or get sent home for that.  She said it is much harder than she thought and she was pretty prepared.  Her recruiter said she was very prepared also so that is hard to hear.  She said she was crying as she wrote to me which hurts a bit.  The overall spirit wasn't to bad though considering its the beginning.  She is excited to move forward and if nothing else, the food is good.  Oh yah~she apologized for being such a pain in the butt.  She realizes how immature she was.  I was like- who is writing this?  Ha ha....glad to hear though!  This is a great beginning for them all so its nice to hear she realizes it!

My first letter came today as well, it was so nice to read, even if some of the things she was talking about didn't sound like it was good, but she reassured me that things are getting better and she is doing fine...and she asked for pictures...

but I'm hoping that it turns out to just be code for something that isn't too bad,....keeping my fingers crossed that everything is still going okay.

Tricsious - I'm curious to find out what the black flagged is as well because my daughter is in the same ship and division as yours.  But I agree,....black flagged doesn't sound like a good thing......
