Has anyone bought a calling card to send to your loved one yet?  I didn't send one with her bc I never thought of it.  I had an extremely difficult time finding one.  Nobody sells them anymore.  I finally found them at Walem in mart.com.(they don't sell them in the store either) and they are shipping it to me. Unbelievable.  Just wanted to give you a heads up if you haven't done it, it's not as easy as you may think.

drewsmom:  Book your hotel earlier...you can always cancel or change.  I suggested Residence Inn Waukegan to a mom on another PIR group since they needed 2 bedrooms (they have 2 bedroom suites) and they were already full.  So I would book hotel early. Not all fill up but some do...they all have liberal cancellation policies.

gfr16:  I would probably do what Brandis said if it were me.  Because that is what the form letter says.  However, this question is asked often on the PIR groups and has been asked on RTC Facebook.  The reply was that as long as they have a picture school ID and birth certificate, they should be ok.

Yes, ccross:  This is totally normal this early in bc.  They are being hit with alot.  This is the breaking down process so they can build them back up into sailors.  Remember, they are dealing with so many different SRs, from different backgrounds, experiences, issues, etc.  They have to get them all on the "same page" to work as a team, and that isn't easy.  So it is very rough in the beginning as they go through this process.  By about week 4 of training, things start to get better, more positive, they see the light at the end of the tunnel (SAILOR!), and you will hear more positive comments because they have achieved some things by then.  Try to keep the faith...encourage him constantly...through letters from you and as many others as you can get to write.  I actually contacted teachers who had been so good to my son (he had been out of high school for about 5 yrs when he went in)...and they were kind enough to write to him too.  He LOVED that.  So...don't be shy!  Get all who mean something to your son to write...maybe even give them addressed stamped envelopes once you have his address!  Hang in there!

For your children who do not have a government issued ID, you can get them a State ID from most drivers license places, you can call them and find out what you will need to bring in for the State issued ID, usually they want to see a birth certificate and social security card or some other form of ID such as her school ID would work also, but check with them.

Hi All,

Have a question that i have not been able to find the answer to just yet.  My daughter. who is 14, will be attending PIR with us to watch her brother in May.  I read that all guests over 12 have to have a government issued id card to gain entry... she doesn't have one as she is only 14? she has a school id, no passport either... has anyone had any experience with this situation?  we will not be able to obtain an id or passport within the next 6 -7 weeks.

Thanks!

Thank you to the moms that repsonded to my comments. All of this is a bit overwhelming and exciting at the same time. This website and ALL your input is so helpful and invaluable. So as of right now my son's PIR is 5/20 and I am so excited. I will take the good advice of some of the veteran moms and wait to make travel plans until he is in week 4 or so. Thanks again for all the support and help. Love my SR!!!

Hi, ladies! I'm Betsy and also a veteran mom (although a little more recent than Dianne, Lala and Jessica).  I will be checking in on here to help wherever I can as well.  My son graduated from BC in December and is now in A school in Pensacola, FL. I can't wait to get to know you all and go through this journey with you.
