NavyGirlMom~ You couldn't have said it any better!  I feel the same way!  Although my dtr is only 17, I am really really struggling with the separation part of it.  I almost feel I have developed anxiety. It's pretty awful right now.  I think them hitting the 10-12 day mark it has really set in.  I'm sure once we get that first phone call or letter I will be relieved of much of it.  I am so proud of her also.  Her being 17 and in the world today, I worried daily.  I actually worry about her now in a different way.  I am secure in that she is safe and making good decisions (which is what was always my biggest worry before)  I hate to say this, but maybe some of my worry is selfish bc I haven't talked to her or heard from her.  That reassurance in her voice which tells me she really is ok on an emotional level.  They are strong and made this committment and I know they will get through it!  I'm so thankful for all of you who listen to my ramblings.  I just can't wait for the tears to stop  - they are definately worse now than when she left.  I just cheered with my coffee - I will make sure its wine the next time!!!

Thanks for sharing!

I can't believe my daughter has been gone a week already!  My daughter is 24 and was actually out on her own before deciding to join up. This is one of the smartest choices she has ever made by joining gthe Navy. Yes, I miss my daughter greatly, but, she is doing a wonderful and admirable thing!  I am bursting with pride as I'm sure most of you moms are.  I am anxiously awaiting the "form letter." I'm sure it is different if your child left at age 18, you haven't quite had time to get aclimated to them being gone for weeks at a time.  People have asked me if I worry about her getting hurt or even worse by joining the military.  Yes, I do, but I also worried about her getting hurt or even worse when she was living alone in an apartment.  Its just something moms do,worry about their children, no matter where their children are.  She has made me proud, and Im thankful and greatful she has chosen to join the Navy.  I noticed on her 19 year-old sister's facebook page she said she was also proud of her sister.  It gives me the warm fuzzies inside. Anyone out there reading my ramblings right now, grab yourself a glass of wine, and toast, to having great children whom have made good decisions.  Toast to yourselves, because you are responsible for these children making good decisions.  Cheers!

Wow, that is true. I had not thought about that. I guess I was very lucky because we saw 2 pics of our sailor when she was there :-)

One thing that most of us do not realize is that there can be 75 divisions at Gl at one time in BC training, so consider yourself very fortunate if you see your recruit in a photo.

Have you heard of a group here on N4M's called ANSWER (Adopt a Noble Recruit Write Every Sailor)? Nearly every Div./PIR Group have SR’s that get little to no mail. They may not have any family to support them or maybe their family doesn't realize how important the letters are for the future Sailors. Ask your sailor in your next letter if there are any recruits who are not getting any mail and if there are have him/her send you the name and address. PLEASE do not post the name and/or address on this site or any other website, such as facebook etc. Just go to that group and send the info in a private message to Hunter's Mom (creator of the group) And if you would like to write to these well deserving recruits please join the group. Each member must be approved. If you are already a member of it check to make sure you still are. There was a glitch this morning and some members were accidentally deleted. Thanks so much and I hope you all have a lovely weekend. :-)

diannep - yep, i borrowed it, it is really needed with the newer groups so I try to use what i have learned and what I have borrowed from others.  Glad you got a kick out of it. Sometimes you post something that I was going to before I get a chance to but we are here to help those on the journey find their way.
