My husband had me book our flight, car rental and hotel already, he says it is best to book early and make sure you get a decent price then to wait and everything fills up and the prices might go up as well.  Southwest Airlines for those of you that are going to fly into Chicago are the only ones that I have found so far that offer you a choice to change dates on the "wanna get away" (cheap rates), they won't refund the money, but they will change the dates for you and you only have to pay the difference in what the ticket would cost, other airlines if you fly their cheapest rate, won't let you change, you lose all your money.  We also found that the Days Inn on Hwy 41 offers a free shuttle service to the Pass In Review and I have talked to some other moms who have stayed there and said it was pretty nice and only costs a little more then half the price of the Navy Lodge ($65 nightly for Navy Lodge, Days Inn $32-$40 a night). As long as you have someone graduating Boot Camp all you have to do is tell the Navy Lodge and you can stay there if that is where you decide to book a room at, and if you have a government ID at Days Inn you can get the government rate and if you have to change dates you don't lose any money as well.  I have tried to find places that if the date changes for any reason, we can make changes without losing too much money if any at all.

I am sure that B's age is apparent as being the older guy in the group, as far as exact age I think that they will learn more about each other as they get to know each other and form friendships. Our B is very friendly and easy to get to know, he is also quite funny and witty. I am hoping that he will take a position of supporting the younger kids and offer insight or advice for those who may be having a rough time away from home for the first time. He worked in the private sector for over 10yrs. His degree is in Drafting, Design and project management. His contract with the Navy is in Avionics. Do any of you have kids that have musical background? I have been told that the 900 Divisions are the performing division. That they have to be chosen and tryout for it. I have also heard that they may have been chosen because of high ASVAB scores. How cool, huh?!

Tricsious I was 17 when I left for bootcamp also definetly was the youngest in the group but I had a lot of people in my division looking out for me. Bootcamp is definetly different from when I was there, the only place women could go was Orlando, there were 2 female companies when I graduated, we had classes with the guys but they sat on one side of the room and we sat on the other. My son is 19, I know it is hard for you but know she will be ok

ColoradoConnie~ good for him.  I think it is respectable at any age.  Starting over is never easy so I commend him.  My dtr is  17 so she is probably one of the youngest in the group.  I wonder if the recruits know that much about one another (age I mean).

Wow 30 I think when I went through boot camp we had a woman that was around that age, my daughter actually goes to school in Western PA we are in Central Pa in the Harrisburg area, definetly the meet and greet sounds like fun.

It seems like we are all on the same emotional roller coaster! Proud but concerned waiting on every letter, call or info what so ever. It is so wonderful that we are able to support each other! Our son is 30 and he has chosen to change his life by offering his previous skills and talents to the Navy and is going to add to his knowledge using what the Navy has offered him in exchange. I think he might just be the oldest SR in this group. My husband grew up in western Pa north of Pittsburgh and we have been there many times. I love it there in the spring wish we had hillsides exploding into blossom here in the spring!! On the subject of the Meet and Greet I was told that there is one offered for all of the PIR groups prior to each graduation. I think it is at the Ramada Inn Waukegan. So members can meet and put faces to names etc. Sounds like fun to me!

I will be driving from Buffalo.  Haven't started looking into hotels yet.  I am so grateful for this site.  There is a wealth of information.  I am doing well coping I think, and then I get on this site and I cry every time.  I can't listen to the radio and hear a patriotic song without balling my eyes out.  Lets hope this gets better!

navyvet- I have seen someones comment on waiting 'til week 4 to start booking...and they said it would have been better to have started earlier. I dont remember when or where I saw it. I am wondering how to find out eligibility to stay at they Navy Gateway on base? My hubby is a Navy vet also, (Vietnam) I was going to check into it today. How far will you have to drive to get to PIR?  We are planning at least 2 days maybe three taking our time. But that will also depend on how much time B's gf will be able to get off. Will you be attending the Meet and Greet? It will be fun wont it!
