For those driving to PIR, I have been told that there are handicapped parking spots there. They also have sailors posted around the base with wheelchairs if the walking gets too difficult....you will be wheeled right into the PIR Hall...and out again if you want!   ...And the PIR shuttle from Residence, Courtyard, and Springhill was $3/pp each way.  I believe that Ramada's is complimentary.

Amanda, I couldn't have said it better than Brandis, ColoradoConnie, and 1ProudMama did.  Prayers for you and your SR, and the plans that the Lord has ahead for all...loved ColoradoConnie's "happy ending" story and pray for a similar one for you all!

Amanda, I am so very sorry to hear that your SR is coming home.  However, you both are still very young and have your whole lives ahead of you to choose a different path. I'm sure he will have other options.  THAT is the beauty of living in America!  There are options, for both of you.  Sending big hugs your way.  (and be patient, it will take time to get over this disappointment, take one day as it comes.)

Amanda, My youngest brother had a similar thing happen to him when he went into the Navy 24 years ago, he was a nuke and because he was diagnosed with gluacoma and would not be able to perform the skills required for his rate. They offered him other jobs then, but he decided to go home. He got married earlier than they had planned. He and his wife both went to school part time and worked part time he has since received an advanced engineering degree, travels the world has a beautiful family and has even develpoed some really cool software programs ( Patents and all ) I hope this helps you to see there is a future ahead for you kids and share that with him. Best wishes for your future together!! BTW his oldest Daughter is shipping to GL in 10 days! April 22nd!!

Amanda sorry to hear that your loved one is being sent home, I can only imagine the great disappointment he is going through right now, but with everyone's love and support once he gets home, I am sure it will help him cope a bit better, right now I can only imagine that some loving arms around him giving him a big hug is what he needs to help him emotionally.  My heart is saddened to know that his dream of being in the military is cut short.

This breaks my heart to say this but it looks like my SR is coming home in the next 10-14 days. He called his mum this morning and let her know. Apparently hiis eyes are still giving him problems ( seeing double) and this disquals him. She sad is sick and terribly upset over this. What upsets me is the fact that he was 1 day away from upgrading to an E-3. My heart breaks for him.

Me Too, Me Too! navyvet!! Our son got in pretty late and left a message on our answering machine that first night, Now I have his voice on the machine because I never erased the message. I listen to it everyday, sometimes several times!!  So glad it worked out that way for us! We are up very early in the mornings here (4 - 4:30 am ) so when the call came in it was after 11pm and we had been in bed awhile by then. :)

ColoradoConnie, I know it is very nice of them. I cant wait. I was thinking of taking the shuttle, my mom is 74 and it would be nice not to have to walk along way because of parking. . I've heard good things about taking the shuttle. Are you going to the MnG?

Comment by ColoradoConnie on April 12, 2011 at 11:35am
@ Kelly, The MnG is from 6 - 8 pm each week. I think it is such a neat thing they do for all of the families and friends for each of our Sr's soon to be Sailors! They also have a complimentary shuttle to the front gate for the PIR  so you dont have to drive to the base. It sounds like parking there is a bit hard to find close in. If you have elderly or disabled attendees they can be dropped of to wait at the gate for you while you park. I personally like the idea of the shuttle!!
