Today is a great day. I got not 1, not 2, but a 6 page letter from my daughter. I never thought that letters could make me so giddy. She sounds great and is doing great. She said that they are in hell week this week and very busy, but everyone is excited about it because they say once hell week starts, the time flies by so fast until PIR. She said that 192 is scheduled for Battlestations the Sunday before PIR. She wrote that the entire division get chills down their spines when a division goes to Battlestations. She said they run around base screaming Cadence. She said that 192 is so looking forward to it. She said that they have earned 4 flags already and that their sponsor flag is "Redcocks".

She said that the girls in 192 are really starting to become like a family. They help each other out whenever they can. She said that the SR who sleeps in the bunk next to her received a "dear john" letter from her fiancee of 5 years. All of the girls comforted her, cried with her, hugged her, listened to her stories, and made her feel so much better. She did say that one of the girls tried to take her Master of Arms and Stickman positions away from her, but it didn't work. One thing that she wrote which really surprised me was that one of the girls received PT punishment (she didn't say what for), and my daughter did the entire punishment PT with her to motivate her. She said that she hurt so badly afterwards, but that it was worth it and it made her feel so good to unselfishly do something to help another person. If she told me this 5 weeks ago, I would not believe a word she said, but WOW, she is really growing up. She did say that the Chief told her that she has to become more of a bitch to the division when she is in command.

Just imagine a whole group of girls bonding and becoming a family in just 4 short weeks. I never thought I would see that.

On another note, I finally booked my air travel, but am still undecided on where to stay. Where is everyone else staying? I need some advice on a good place. My daughter's only request is that they have to have wireless internet in the rooms. She wants to catch up on her favorite shows online.

I have yet to see on this site a Meet and Greet for 5/21 PIR or even one for Ship 04, Div 192. I would love to meet all of you who have helped me out, sharing information, and just being, what I feel, the only people on this planet who understands how life changing it is for a mother, wife, or girlfriend who their loved one goes to bootcamp. If we don't see one set up, I think we should all set a time and place on the 20th to get together and meet each other. How do you all feel about it?

I just got my letter! He sounds good. They're in "Hell week" right now. He's about a week behind in the letters he's getting from me. He also got to pick his preferences for his Nuke job so we'll see what he gets! So lots of inspections and studying this week! He sounds happy still, not a single complaint yet, but he definitely sounds tired. He also said he's glad I have the Navy for Moms site! He's impressed with how we all share information and therefore know more sometimes than even they do! haha I love Letter Day....

Haha, my letter days are Thursdays too! I woke up early this morning & immediately thought, 'oh it's going to be a long wait until the mail arrives.'

Jess's Mom, I wish she were writing more, but I know she's dead tired at lights out because she has always been an early to bed kid, except maybe the last year or so, and then only occasionally. But I'm am glad that at least they are long letters and very descriptive and insightful. I guess it's the little things that I would also like to know, like the birthday cards, and letters from friends and relatives. I'm going to work on form letters tonight and send them along with self-addressed stamped envelopes so I can get answers to the questions I have. Otherwise, I think she's providing a goo glimpse into her state of mind and the routine. I think she may have written to a couple of friends, but that's about it. She did talk about several girls in her division and the things that she impressed her about them, so you are right about the bonding.
lovemysailor, don't worry it's coming! Hope we all do get calls on Friday.

mikesproudmom, all that college work paid off! You know, there is nothing as nice as a long letter with lots of news and commentary. And so good to see kids that are actually literate and not just texting in abbreviations, though on occasion, that's not so bad, either. LOL (see?)

I know what you mean about the "block" letters. Thank goodness my daughter is writing in block or else I would not understand a word she is writing.
