Wow! We all just woke up. I think we just finally crashed after all of the commotion and excitement.

I am hanging onto every word of these posts now. I am so afraid that the awesomeness of this experience will fade too soon.

I was so emotional all day yesterday. All three of my kids kept trying to "comfort" me. I finally had to explain that they were not tears of sadness. The tears strated just after the sailors came in. I think it was the anticipation of the sailors entrance with the percussion building that first started my heart pounding. The tears started at first sight of OUR sailor in rank coming in. He looked more handsome than I have ever known him to be. The tears came again with the whole group singing "Anchors Aweigh," and saying, "Thanks Folks." (I have not seen my boy that happy since he was a small child. THAT is a change that I never anticipated.) Then they came again upon seeing Yenni with her baby bump, toddler, and sailor man; with all the ship-shape sailors wandering the restaurants and mall; the tearful goodbye of a young girl and her sailor in the parking lot followed by his mother and grandmother comforting her and wiping their own tears as he walked away onto the base, following liberty. Th tears brimmed the surface again at the sight of the big cowboy dad with his big cowboy hat and belt buckle, glancing longingly at his sailor long after his sailor had started the long walk back to his ship; watching all the solitary sailors from the Nex walking down the misty sidewalk to return and report back; with the long lines of cars bringing their sailors back from liberty. The tears came once again just a few short hours later in the wee hours of the morning, saying good-bye at the airport, watching yenni's toddler salute his daddy and his daddy fighting back tears as he saluted back. And finally saying good-bye to my own sailor at the airport and seeing the pride and tears in the eyes of his brother and little sister as well as mine. No one could have scripted a movie any better. It was all so surreal.

Well, of course that was long, but by now, you wouldn't expect anything less from me, now would you?

It was so awesome meeting all of you at the meet-and-greet. I'm so glad that we had each other to share this momentuous occasion with. I truly love you all! And now, I finally know what it means...Bravo Zulu!!!

...here's praying and hoping for nothing but the best for your new sailors!  :-)

Drop in on the current/future PIR groups whenever you like to offer info or answer questions...after all, you are ALL now "veteran" ladies too!

Barrablanca:  You did all you could to be there for both kids.....and for that, you know they appreciate it!  There are just times in life where we can't do it all in the way we want--circumstances out of our control.  There are some who may have chosen one over the other to attend, but I would have been like you...I have always been there for my boys and would go to the ends of the earth to be there for each of them--so I would have done exactly as you did.  So....no guilt, ok?  The Lord has a big smile for the way you handled it!  :-)

gnome:  Hope you found your sailor at the airport.  Usually you meet up with them at the USO center...although if at Midway, your sailor must meet you before security since USO is after security there.  Hope it all worked out!

Barrablanca just left the airport watching all the sailors support each other was amazing. They are a tight family! Glad you made it to support both your children in their accomplishments!
