hello all - just had a nice long call from my sailor ( boy thats so nice to write) so now I want to add my 2 cents to the college debate and feel free to tell your friend ..the bid difference i see right now is after 4 yrs of college you may still have a very imature child who they might still have to support but only after 8 weeks of boot camp i just had a conversation with a very mature ,confident, and proud to be one of the US NAVY WOMEN !!!!!

My SR is division 198.  They did BS on Sun/Mon, but he didn't call me yesterday.  He just called and told me they also got internet time and he used all his time on the internet, facebook.  I know where I stand.  He was injured during BS and had to be taken to the hospital for stitches in his finger at 4:00 am.  For those at PIR you can probably identify him from the large gauze bandage on his finger.

Good luck to all the SRs doing BS tonight.  I'll light my candles when I get home to help them along.

Oh Diane- you are soo right- a very biggie! They can't change their mind. That is a HUGE difference- and causes such anxiety.

Barra- your story made me sad. I am so sorry to hear that about those marines. This is a sad world at times.

ProuddutchMom- That is such awesome news. Congrats to you.

Here4- If you are here, please know I am so sorry for your loss. I know it's not a death, but I'm sure that's how you feel. But be assured, she will be a sailor. Afterall, that is the bottom line. That's what she went for- not to go thru PIR. She will do it and excel. Please keep us informed.  I will continue to pray for her.

I just had to put my 2 cents in about the difference between boot camp and college. My son was at college before going to boot camp. There is absolutely no comparison to sending your son to boot camp. Not knowing where he is or what is going on and having no contact in a world where you can reach anyone, anywhere. I really do not think anyone can understand what it is like until they have stood in our shoes.

I will say, however, that in the months before my son left for boot camp and the during the last 8+ weeks, I believe he did a lot of growing up and maturing, as did our relationship. I love listening to Laura Story's Blessings because our blessings did not come through raindrops, it was through Navy boot camp. I think it has made us stronger and closer as a family. We all realize how much we love and mean to each other (not that we weren't close before), but absence definitely does make your heart grow fonder. And the maturity that was personified in his letters showed that he truly gets it. He gets that his parents loved him unconditionally and had rules that were in his best interest. He gets how much his family means to him, and just the simple things like hanging out and watching a movie or grabbing a pizza is priceless. So, did I like not having contact with my son while in boot camp? My answer would be no, but would I support him to do it all over again:   ABSOLUTELY!

I just can't wait to give him a great big hug!
