(Okay I just posted something but I inadvertently erased it so I hope I'm not repeatiing myself..) Heis63-when did your son tell you he was grad n go? IN the phone call a few weeks ago my husband (Div 934) said they were told that they were leaving on Tuesday after graduation. I thought either the whole division was grad n go or the whole division was not grad n go (that's what our friend who is also in the Navy said). Am I mistaken or has 934 become grad n go??

MN Navy Mom - Where is your son a G&G too? We have a lot of good info for families with Grad & Go's on the group "Grad & Go Info". From what I tell by reading your post below, it sounds like he is leaving the same day as PIR?? I would love to get more info from you so we can help answer other's questions in the future. Please join us on that group!

I thought I would post this, just in case someone doesn't have the info! Sobe (Lisa)
Phases of Liberty while at A-School
Liberty is different than Leave. Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved. Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to leave the base but they are still "on duty" and cannot travel far and they are still accountable for their whereabouts and some even have duty while on liberty.

There are three (3) phases of Liberty - all of which must be earned. They can also be taken away!

Phases are like being a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. They get different privileges depending on how long they have been at school. Phases are the same at all A schools, but the amount of time in each phase varies between schools.

Phase I is for sailors who have just arrived. They are required to wear their uniforms at all times outside of their barracks, are not allowed to leave base and are required to muster three times each day.

Phase II sailors have been at the school for an average of 2-6 weeks. They can wear civilian clothes and they can go off-base - only with a liberty buddy. They are not allowed to stay out overnight.

Phase III are sailors who have been at the school approximately 4-12 weeks and have shown personal responsibility. They no longer have to attend evening muster and can stay out overnight.

Student sailors may be "phased back" or denied the next phase if they fail inspections, miss PT or morning muster or otherwise get in trouble. Even while in Phase III, there are certain cities they are not allowed to go to and there is a mileage boundary line which is unique for each A-School. For example, NASP/Corry Station in Pensacola, FL do not allow sailors to go to New Orleans.

thanks yackie1, i am still trying to get my air flight booked. it is so expensive. im coming in from texas. my son told me he would be getting liberty until tuesday night but i am not sure if that has changed or not. i am still not sure where he is going to A school still. and he hasnt given much details in the few letters he has sent. is there any information on the bc website other then generic type stuff? he said when he called that they were just starting week 3 and we thought he was at the end of 4. i guess they got started later because they were still waiting for everyone to get there. but they still graduate on july 9. so i am not sure if they miss some training or what. im so confused! lol.

Div 235....we got a phone call as well from my son yesterday. What a great surprise. He had missed his younger sister's graduation party the day before, but when he called - the rest of the family was all together so he got to talk with all of us. Our calls have all come from area code 847 as well.....He told us that he will only get 4 hours with us after graduation as a grad and go....sad news as that is only 1/2 the time it will take us to get there, but I am happy for anytime I get.

In regards to pick up times for sailors on Sat, Sun after graduation: Our grandson told us they are "turned loose" in div order......and after breakfast. It may depend on their RDC but that's the way he had to do it. We were there at the gate to pick him up at 7:45am but he didn't get to the gate until 8:30 and the above is the reason he gave us. Hope this helps.

BS-21 calls: When our PIR had BS-21, we all wondered when we would get the "I'm a Sailor" call. Thought I'd share our experience. For example, if BS-21 is on June 30th, it starts at 8pm and ends at 8am on July 1st. But they don't start making their calls until around 1:30 - 2:00 CST and as late as 6pm. So don't worry (like we did!). And these are NOT short calls, most of them were given 45 minutes to make as many calls as they wanted! Our PIR group walked around our offices at work with our cell's in our bras and took them into the bathroom (okay, we were a little desparate to talk to our kids!).

janice - you sound so happy! My son and several others were told that they would be leaving at 2am on Sat too, but it turned out to be 5am and they didn't arrive to Midway airport until 6am. Heard this from others too, but your son will know for sure by PIR day. Save yourself some heartbreak and confusion by asking him these questions in your next letter: Ask him to tell you on PIR day the following - Airport, Airline, time he is leaving GL, Departure time of flight! My son assumed he was flying out of O'Hare and had to call us Sat morning from a pay phone at the Midway airport to tell us where he was so we could meet him!!! And join the "Grad & Go Info" group for more G&G stuff that will be useful.
