I sent you a friend request. Send me a private inbox message and I can help you out. I work 1/2-40 min hour from the airport and 5 min from the base. My son has the same PIR date as you recruit. I would be happy to help you out.

Emsmom-
Yes I am a proud native Houstonian. I have heard of Waltrip high school. I was born and raised in the northwest area, where 290 and Sam Houston intersect, in Jersey Village.

Sobe,

Thanks so much. That makes me feel much better, and you can bet I'll pass that info on to her.

emsMom: Your daughter just described the "peanut butters" they wear! They look really nice too and they will be wearing them on Sat & Sun of PIR weekend if they are not a Grad & Go. Everyone wears their Dress Whites all day on PIR Friday, and then again to the airport whenever they fly out. She may not be the only Navy person at the Air Force base. There are 11 divisions graduating on 7/30 - that's around 900 new sailors, so the odds are she won't be the only newbie! And there are Sailors already at her A-School too. My son's A-School is at Corry Station, just a few miles from Naval Air Station Pensacola (NASP). It's unique because it's they only train four different rates (jobs) there. IT (Information Technologist) is one of the four rates, and all branches of our military send their guys/gals to Corry Station for training, because each branch of the military has these positions. So he bunks with an Air Force guy and an Army guy - they are competitive, but it's all in good fun.

Sadye Rose.

I wish I could help you out. We are driving up, and have no idea when we are going to get to Chicago. I am originally from Houston, myself. I have lots of family that live there, within the loop, and many around Katy and Sugarland. I went to Waltrip High School (Northwest Houston) many many moons ago. Anyway, we make our yearly pilgrimage to Houston every summer. We probably will until my 98 year old grandmother passes away. Are you originally from the Houston area or are you a transplant?

Hey Sue! I know you are so proud of your son. It sounds like he is really growing up. I'm sure they all are. I think you will be surprised how handsome your son will look in not only his new hair cut, but also his uniform.

I got a letter today also. My daughter said that on July 1 they saw a group graduating. She knows it will be their turn soon enough. They are already starting to practice for PIR. She wrote about getting their tan shirts and dark pants "like the recruiters wear". They have completed small arms training which she loved.

She will be going to an Air Force Base in Mississippi for A School. She is nervous because she is the only one that she knows of training to be an AG and going to an air force base. I tried to tell her that she is going to be like someone with dual citizenship. She will be able to speak two languages - Navy and now Air Force. She stated that their 6th or 7th week, their division should know when they will need to report to A - school / if they are to be grad and go or will have some time.

Hey everyone--
This may be weird, but I'm flying from Houston to O'Hare by myself on 7/29. I'm 19 and not old enough to rent a car, and I'd like to avoid paying for a cab if possible. Anyone going the same direction? As in, from the O'Hare airport to Great Lakes?

My son called me July 3rd. We got to talk for exactly 1 hour 1min and 4 seconds and I feel like the luckiest mom on earth! He's looking forward to seeing us and we are counting the days until we can see him too!
His voice was somewhat weak at first and he sounded very tired, he said it was due to a bad sinus infection he'd developed during the week but says he's getting better now. He told me it was a tough first few weeks, but it seems as if they're all beginning to pull together more. He told me he's still very motivated and they're all eager to get through the training together. I'm very proud of my son. He told me that they have learned to look after each other and are quickly becoming one huge family! He also says the food is not so bad either, they just don't get much time to enjoy it. They ate catfish last Friday and lasagna on Wed or Thurs. I asked him if it was as good as mine and the smart kid that he is he answered " Not even close Mom! LOL "
