RNnavywife - My son says the food is great, just not enough time to eat it. I guess they have a few guys who don't want to adhere to the rules so they have had a lot of IT. My son was very into work outs before he left so he is actually enjoying the extra PT. Didn't like the shots they received though. Seems to be coping with everything so far. Says they weren't letting them mail their letters because some in the division weren't listening, but I guess they must have allowed it. I know his girlfriend received a few letters also. Susan

I got a Letter today from my son! He said the food was good and he liked it there! he didn't like the "Beat downs" I guess that is when they get you up in the middle of the night or early morning and make you do extreme exercise. They got 2 in one night cause a guy didn't want to get out of bed.

Susan, that is my husbands division too! I haven't gotten a letter yet, so I'm hoping that since you just got yours, mine are coming soon! My husband was also going to originally do Nuke but then decided to do sonar instead. Did he say if bc was what he expected? Better, worse? I'm dying to know what's going on there, lol...hopefully I will get a letter soon :)

Got my first two letters from my son, Ship 10, Div. 254, and he sounds like he is doing just fine. Actually looking for a little more PT even though his division has had quite a bit of IT. Just happy to know he is hanging in there. Only 5 more weeks to go. Then he is off to SC for NUKE school.

Oh... I just learned how to do something! I can now post a link to the new Grad & Go Info group. I guess it wasn't coming up quickly in the group search box and people couldn't find it.
Whenever you see a word or phrase that is blue and underlined, that means it's a link that you can click on - takes you right to it.
So... if anyone wants help/info on Grad & Go's, click on this: Grad & Go Info

I thought I would post this, just in case someone doesn't have the info! Sobe (Lisa)
Phases of Liberty while at A-School
Liberty is different than Leave. Leave is similiar to requesting time off for vacation at work, they must submit a chit and have it approved. Liberty basically means that they have "liberty" to leave the base but they are still "on duty" and cannot travel far and they are still accountable for their whereabouts and some even have duty while on liberty.

There are three (3) phases of Liberty - all of which must be earned. They can also be taken away!

Phases are like being a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior. They get different privileges depending on how long they have been at school. Phases are the same at all A schools, but the amount of time in each phase varies between schools.

Phase I is for sailors who have just arrived. They are required to wear their uniforms at all times outside of their barracks, are not allowed to leave base and are required to muster three times each day.

Phase II sailors have been at the school for an average of 2-6 weeks. They can wear civilian clothes and they can go off-base - only with a liberty buddy. They are not allowed to stay out overnight.

Phase III are sailors who have been at the school approximately 4-12 weeks and have shown personal responsibility. They no longer have to attend evening muster and can stay out overnight.

Student sailors may be "phased back" or denied the next phase if they fail inspections, miss PT or morning muster or otherwise get in trouble. Even while in Phase III, there are certain cities they are not allowed to go to and there is a mileage boundary line which is unique for each A-School. For example, NASP/Corry Station in Pensacola, FL do not allow sailors to go to New Orleans.

Does anyone know if the recruit doesn't have stamps are they able to purchase some there?
My boyfriend went with some but they were sent back in his box. We think he just wasn't paying attention and sent everything home :(
I'm hoping he was still able to mail letters yesterday. I sent him some in the mail as soon as we got his box and realized his had been sent home, but he probably won't receive that until later this week.

When my husband sent the form letter about PIR he did write a little letter on the bottom of it in the comment box...enough to tell me how things were going, that someone had already stolen his ID, money card and stamps. So if it takes up to 10 days for them to receive mail, then maybe he just got my first letter that I sent more stamps with. I think I sent it a day after I got the form letter, which was around the 8th. So that could be the delay. Plus, he didn't have a phone card and I just sent that like a week ago, so hopefully he just got that or will be getting it soon. He better always lock things up now that he has learned a lesson the hard way. Thanks for the info Sobe, it makes me feel better to know that this delay in letters is pretty normal.

FYI: Some of you may already know this, but in the form letter you will get, the navy gives a website for more info about bc (boot camp) and PIR (Pass in Review), aka their graduation. You can learn alot there, but some of it will lead you right back here to N4M to get answers to the Navy's "brief" overview of bc!

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil Go to the Family tab, then click and read everything there, watch the videos too, they are wonderful! Especially the part about BS-21 (Battle Stations 21) thats the big final exercise (12 hrs long, 8pm to 8am) and then the PIR graduation!
