I can't believe my son says he likes his dress whites. Him in white, yikes! Always a stain and never in white for that reason.

OMG!!! Danny has changed so much too. He never worried about his clothes looking nice and neat. He had not problem walking out of the house with wrinkles and stains. now he is all about the uniform looking good. can't wait to see my grown up man on the 30th.

Love all your stories - we told you guys there was a light (and a laugh) at the end of the tunnel! Here's a little story you might relate to: After PIR, we went to our hotel to change clothes. My son went into the bathroom and didn't come out for about 15 minutes. I thought something was wrong - but then he showed me what he had been doing. He had totally cleaned up that motel bathroom! Apparently, the shower curtain was not pulled back correctly, the toilet paper was not drawn to the proper length, nor was it folded at the end right either. This was a kid who had never even bothered to change a roll of toilet paper before he left for bc!!!! I wish I had sent him to boot camp when he was younger!

I got a call today as well. Such a relief after little communication. He sounded so good and is very excited for PIR. He made Sharp Shooter! Guns are his thing. He will leave for Gulfport the Tuesday after graduation.

I am like Worf Grrl - too excited for words right now.

Wolf Grrl - how awesome! Don't you love those calls!!!!
FYI - I thought our new sailors would be "pinned" at PIR, but they arrive with the ribbons/awards already on their uniforms.

emsmom: There are several of us on various groups that are writing letters to recruits who haven't gotten mail (or rarely get mail). We do this several ways, 1 - we write a "dear recruit" letter and send it to someone we know and ask them to give it to someone who doesn't get letters. Sometimes we send 3 copies of that letter (typed and hand signed) if there's more than one person not getting mail. We include our name and address at the bottom, in case they want to write back - but we continue to mail the letters whether we hear from them or not. Of course, if a recruit were to write back telling us to stop, we would (has never happened yet). I can't tell you how rewarding it feels to do this - it's better than sponsoring a family at Christmas!!!! The letter should be motivating and inspirational, maybe ask them a few general questions and tell a little about yourself and your recruit/or experience, send some funny stuff too if that's your style. I tell my guys (all have been male so far) that I know bc is difficult and they can use me as a sounding board if they have issues. Now.... if we have a recruits name and address, we mail the letter directly to them. So.... if you want someone to write a letter to some of these ladies, I'm happy to do so. I would need you to send me a private message on this site and provide me with your recruits name and address. I would write a quick note to your recruit asking her to pass out the letters. It's up to you, but I am here for those recruits! I cannot imagine what it would be like to not get any mail - my son lived for it, it's the only thing that kept him sane in bc.

Momce,
It does seem as though this division is under some stress. My daughter said that there are 88 girls in her room. She mentioned that several girls have left. Others have come that had been put back from other div.s. She said that she enjoys her "quiet corner" of the room. It sounds like those around her are maybe a bit more mature. And, to be fair, they are a little older - twenty somethings as compared to late teens. She mentioned that mail call there has been depressiong. We write a lot. She didn't get a letter for a while, but then in one day received 9, so now she knows that the mail is being held at times. She mentioned that there are many that don't receive any mail.

Division 259 does not have a lot of moms on this site. I am not wearing a specific color for the meet and greet, but we are going to do our best to be there. I am making pins for our family and will try to bring a few extras for those that need one.

Jaz04,
Our daughter does not leave for Gulfport, but Biloxi, MS. She will be at an air force base there. We really don't know her schedule yet. Still waiting to find out.
