And don't insurance the package after it gets to the military the insurance is no  good anymore it is a waste of money.  We have never had anything lost or stolen, I guess I was lucky.

One of the things that Devin told me was to never ever put the words Naples, Italy on the mail - just use the Military address your kids give you.  He said if you put Naples, Italy anywhere on the mail it goes to the Naples post office first and it takes forever to get the packages and often they are opened and items are missing!  Who would of thought right?  I just put exactly what he told me and it never takes longer than 10 days for him to get anything I send.

Hi, how is everyone doing?  Stephen use his phone through skype and it was really cheap you can buy minutes.  Skype and fb is the way to go it is the cheapest.  When I would mail items to Stephen it would  take anywhere from a week to three weeks and depending on the hours they are working it is hard for them to get to the post office sometimes.

Going to Europe is wonderful isn't it.  We saw so many wonderful things and places and it helps that our sailor know a little it is much easier to get around.

I know Stephen loved Italy but he just wanted to move on, it is hard for them to be  so far away from home.

Well I just wanted to stop in to say hi, how everyone is doing well.

Stevesmom-I'm not sure if packages are different, but the last envelope I sent him with some paperwork he wanted took 2 weeks.  I mailed another envelope to him yesterday that had an ipod, charger, mail, and a couple of 8 x 10 pictures in it.  I asked the lady at the post office if it would take about 2 weeks and she said things were taking about 12 days.  They hold them somewhere until they have a full load.

Hi ladies....glad to see we have some new moms. Welcome! Rachel just got back from a trip to London and Paris. She posted all the pictures on fb. We were just looking at them and my husband said...it doesn't even seem like she is in the Navy. OOO to be 21 and traveling Europe
Hope all is well with your sailors and families!

Haha, umm, not sure how "hot" of conditions your son has been living in Donna, but it gets hot in Naples in the summer, kind of like VA or NC kind of weather.  Not ungodly hot but hot enough!  My son's biggest complaint about the heat there is the lack of use of deodorant by the Italians LOL

He's only got about 6 months left as well and although happy to be back, said he is ready to move on as well, just not sure where he's going!  He is coming home this summer for his 30 day post deployment leave!  Can't wait till July 18th!!!  :0)

Skype is also a great thing when they are over there, I just love being able to see my kid as well as hear his voice!  :0)

I am going to have to have my husband try that app!  I have texting on my phone but he doesn't.  Jamie has seen and done some amazing things since he's been over there and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous.  He is, however, so ready to come back to an English speaking country!  He's on his last six months being stationed over there and although he is ready to move on, he loved being there and experiencing the culture.

Donna - Welcome to the group.  My son has had several cell phones, all of which he has lost or broken!  I believe they were more a pay as you go because he said to us once that when he used it to call us, it would really eat up his minutes calling international.

Adele  - I'm sure Andrew will be so happy to have his fiance with him!  It is tough when you work nights and 3/4 of the world doesn't.  I worked them for two years and lost touch with so much during that time.  I still rarely watch any television since the only thing on when I worked nights were soap operas!  Never could get back into watching any of the night time shows.

Donna, my son got a cell phone when he got there but I've heard from a lot of folks that the magic jak works well there too.  My son loves it there, he's seen so much of Europe while stationed in Italy.  He decided to stay living on base as he's a corpsman and he just has to cross the street to get to work at the hospital from his barracks.  He will be leaving there in December, not sure where he's going from there though.  He did say it's been a little bit of an adjustment getting back into the way things are done there, he just got back from Afghanistan and a lot of the staff has changed etc.  It always just amazes me how they just adjust and move along :0)

Hi Moms!  Hope everyone is doing well!  Been a while since I've checked in!  Devin is out of Afghanistan and back in Naples now!  He is doing well, getting back into the swing of things, has only been back for a couple of weeks.  I didn't get to see him at all, they took him to Norfolk and within 48 hrs he was on a plane on his way to Italy :0(  But I am going to Naples in September and hopefully he will come to the states for a visit this summer as well, just not sure when he will take his post deployment leave yet!  So - what's new and exciting here?!  :0)
