Hi ladies....Rachel and her shipmate Stacy returned to the states on Monday. They started a 6 week class at Walter Reed on Wednesday. She told me that her and Stacy stood out in their blue camos in the sea of brown and green. They had a lot of navy people coming up to them and make them feel really welcome. (love the navy family). They had a captain ask them where they were from and what they were doing for the long weekend. The girls told her and she asked them "do you want a pass to go home?". Both girls said yes and bought tickets. Rachel for California, Stacy for Michigan. Fast forward to Saturday....my husband and I have been sick with bad colds all week and were laying on the couch relaxing.....when to our surprise are best friends walk in. Our friend Randy has his cell phone out, his wife comes in after him and to our surprise so does RACHEL... I couldn't believe she was standing in my living room. Our friends made the 2 1/2 hour drive to San Francisco to pick her up. I love Randy and Ronda! She has to fly back to D.C in the morning. Just being able to hold her and give her a hug fills my heart with so much love! Rachel has learned, on this short trip home, that she can't wait to get back to her family in Naples. She said "'mom I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I really love being in Italy". She loves the navy. I always remind her, that all we every wanted for her is to be happy. My husband and I were feeling stressed out about going to D.C to see her. With both of us having a hard time taking time off from work and the price of tickets, this little trip home for her, took a huge weight off of our shoulders. Seeing Rachel this happy and she is loving what she is doing makes us so happy and proud of her! If I can figure out how to upload the video of her surprise home coming, I will post it!

She can't wait to get back to Naples and met all the new people who just got there.

Pam...have you started the count down until April?

Thanks for letting me share my story.....I hope all your sailors are happy and healthy. :)

Yes it will be fun taking time back there . My brother and I used to stay with my dad in Northern Italy for our 6 wk Summer school vacation ,hence my brother dislikes everything Italian !! Max twin is already planning her study abroad to England then we 'hop ' over and see max for Thanksgiving !! Who needs the Navy to plan when we have a JESS .

Sheryl, that is so funny about driving in Italy.  We went to visit our sailor and he drove and I just closed my eyes. lol  Yes he is just a baby, my son will be 25 in March.  Well you better start saving so you can go visit Max in Italy.

Debbie- Max will be 19 still our baby of 4 with his twin sister . She was wondering why she didn't get the invite to Venice ! The driving test is insanely easy and particularly in big cities in Italy , just close your eyes , direct the car and pray .They all drive badly ... Just like us with a cell phone in one hand and soda in the other ...

Pam I hope your son can get out if that is what he wants, Stephen could not, her put in for over 20 places and got turned down each time, made him very unhappy.  The driving test is ez they all drive like nuts,  but my son says it works out there. lol

Sheryl he is going to Venice how fun.  Happy birthday to your sailor.  How old?

Adele I am surprise your son is not living on base, my son lived on base and he is the same rank as your son, but my son if  on Capo base do not know if that makes a different.

Takes driver test tomorrow , which is a breeze from why I remember to over here . Did sent some sheets so he feels like his room is home . He said it was weird not to be sharing with someone . He's looking forward to his birthday bash ! Heads up Venice :)
I got married jan 19 and made a lot of enemies too in the UK ,lol at least it's getting to Spring .....

Sheryl - I always use just the first name, but never the last name.  It is kind of confusing that they only know each other by last names or in some case "nicknames."  I'm headed to Chicago at the end of March for a wedding so hopefully it will warm up a little bit Debbie!  I don't know why my mom's family insists on having weddings during the cold months... LOL  It's going to be a quick trip, up on Friday and then back to Atlanta on Monday, so I'm sure I"ll be wore out by the time I get back to work that Tuesday.  My sister's have the whole weekend planned for me..  I was like geez, I just seen everyone at Thanksgiving when they came down here!  Ha, ha...

Adele - So glad Andrew is doing good and getting acclimated.  We should be hearing within the next couple of months whether Jamie gets to come back stateside or if he has to stay over there.  His overseas duty ends in December, but as I'm sure everyone knows, that could get extended.

Thank you :Debbie I noticed we were using first names and I know our sailors only use last names as that's what they see ona uniform!
I just didn't want to make waves :)

sheryl, that is a good question, our sailors use the last name, when I would talk to Stephen about other sailors, he would say mom I don't know first names.  I always use Stephen;s fist name on here but i do put a lot my sailor, cannot  use first and last name, so if I am remembering correctly first name only.
