Yes they will pick up words for sure, Stephen did really well but he also dated a girl out there and was with the family every Sunday and she would not speak english to Stephen so he would learn the language. Don't worry they will do just fine.
Emily the airport is on Capo that is where my son was, Support SIde is much larger and nicer. He will love it.
Master at Arms is what they call the police officer's in the Navy correct? Or MP's in the Army?
So good to see some new faces! Welcome to all! My son Jamie is a Corpsman and we live right outside of Atlanta. Naples is his first duty station, so we went from seeing him after boot, after A School and then after training in San Deigo to not seeing him in almost a year, so yes, it's hard. But since he got there, he has gone to Rome countless times, Paris, Barcelona and now has a trip to Budapest lined up in addition to all that you can see and do just in South Italy.
Emily - Jamie started babbling something in Italian to us the other day on skype and I probably don't even want to know what he said!! We lived a year in El Paso when my husband was stationed there and I often joke the only Spanish I picked up were the bad words.... LOL. I know Jamie had planned on taking classes, but I don't think he ever did. He has picked Italian up as he's gone along and most know English.
Emily, That will be fine. I think one of the other guys that Philip knows in Norfolk will be going to Naples in June also. Philip almost went to Seattle...he was PRP when he finishe A School but they had filled all their openings out there when he graduated so we were lucky. I have a cousin that lives in the Atlanta area...Dallas and her son and son-in-law are in the Navy. One in Little Creek (Norfolk area) and the other in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Hi Emily! How exciting to have 2 MA Mom's!! I'm feeling better already!! Philip is still waiting on his paper orders!! Emily, where is your son currently stationed?
Adele...My son is an MA in Norfolk and just promoted to Petty Officer 3rd Class. He will be going to Naples in June and is supposed to have leave in May. I'm just like you about him leaving. He is currently only 3 hours from home and has 3 day weekends every other week and comes home. Being gone for 2 years will be a HUGE adjustment for me! I'm excited for him and all that will have the chance to see! Philip currently serves on waterside and is a coxswain. He's been told they don't have harbor patrol in Naples and he's excited about that part! I'm glad to see another MA Mom on here from Naples!!
Hi Adele and welcome! My son was stationed in Naples for a little over 2-1/2 years he is home now and working out of Great Lakes for now he is an IT. Stephen used a phone pay as you go that is what worked best for him. We skyped a lot and I could catch him on FB. He was on Capo base that is the smaller base. He will be able to see so many wonderful sights. Oh those goodbyes are just terrible, you can go to the plane with them I take a box of kleenex and sunglasses, LOL that is how I make it out of the airport. Glad you are here with use.
Hi Adele and welcome to the group! We're a small group, but we like to keep up to date on each other's Sailors. My son Jamie left for Naples, last December 28, so he's been there almost a year now. He does have a cell phone, but it is so expensive to talk and he said cell phones don't seem to be all the rage in Italy like they are here in the States. He did end up getting magic jack but here lately the connection has been horrible. We use Skype all the time. It's a hit or miss with that also. Facebook keep us connected also. So, communication for us is done mostly through email, skpe and facebook messages. Enjoy the time you have with Andrew! Jamie was home last Christmas but apparently is traveling to Budapest with his friend Rachel this year! What is Andrew's rate?
Rachel got her packages this morning and I sent them out last Monday afternoon. She wants to open them on skype with us. Pam...stock his FB how else you going to no who's who.... :)
