Lots of free jelly beans!!  They have a "bar" set-up where you can sample them.  We had the time of our lives that afternoon.  Jamie got a big kick out of the "booger" and "smelly skunk" flavors.  Funny.

LOL - My sisters still live in Dyer and everytime I go up to visit, I am amazed at how built up that small town has gotten.  We moved there from Chicago in 1973 and it was a little, bitty thing back then.

ok Carrie, I will look for the picture.

Me too Sharon the waiting is the pits.  Yes it is cold here, but today the sun is out so that makes it a nicer day.

Pam, I know where Dyer, IND is we use to go through that town all the time on route 30.  It has really built up over the years.  LOL yes it is cold but you get use to it.  Did you get any free jelly bellies?????

Jamie came out of boot as an E3 because of college credits that he had and he said he is literally across the courtyard from his clinic also.  He does have to travel to main side for his course that he's taking now.  He likes to save money, so he may end up staying on base.

Debbie - I grew up in a small town in Indiana called Dyer that is under the bottom half of Lake Michican and you could not pay me enough to move back up there and deal with lake effect snow and bone chilling temps.!  WI and IN are cold from September until May!  Awful.  But on the other hand, very green and beautiful.  Jamie and I toured the Jelly Belly factory when I went up for his A School graduation in September and it was pretty chilly even then.

Hi y'all!  Hope everyone is safe and sound and warm and toasty!  Just looked at pics of the northeast - brrrrrrrrr!  Cool and sunny here in FL today thank heavens!

Pam - they do have to be living over there for a year unless they are higher ranked to move off base.  Dev was going to move into a friends place off base this month, he has a 3 story home and one of the roommates is leaving to go back to the states but Dev says he's kind of gotten used to walking to work and really doesn't mind living on base now that he's got his room set up nice.  His barracks is literally across the street from the hospital, he said it takes all of 5 minutes to get to work so he's thinking as long as there's room and they're not forcing him out he's staying put for now and saving some $$.

Carrie - I heard Amsterdam is quite the place to travel to, it's on Dev's list as well.  I just love that they are seeing as much of Europe as they can while there, what an incredible experience!  :0)

I sure hope Stephen hears something soon Debbie!

Have a great day y'alll!

Oh really!  What was he doing there Carrie?  Very cold up there in WI, it runs along Lake Michigan and the winds get bad and they usually get more snow because of that also.

Stephen loved Amsterdam, he said the people were so friendly and you could buy pot everywhere. LOL  No he really did like it.  Hope Amber loves it!  In WI, where, my daughter goes to school in WI!

Pam LOL that is so true what is up with that darn Navy, and he has never had to wait for anything so far with the Navy so this seems very odd to him, maybe it is a good thing. LOL  Pam he has to be an E3 before he can move off of base, Stephen did but had a terrible roommate and moved back on base, I am glad he is there, he did buy a card so once he moved off it was ok to get back to base.  And don't worry the Navy checks it out to make sure it is a good and safe place.  I sent Stephen a lot for his new place said it felt like a home now it is all sitting back on base in his room. LOL  Clean up boys don't clean up. LOL

Debbie - We were just laughing on the Corpsman Mom group about calling the Navy MA Navy.  Maybe it is in fact PA Navy because Ma would have already let Stephen know where he's going!!  LOL.  Women can make decisions a whole lot faster sometimes!!

Jamie sent me an e-mail last night.  He is quickly adapting and becoming quite the "microwave" cook he says.  He was always pretty good in the kitchen, not so good on the clean-up!  I believe he will make someone a fine husband one of these days.  I've sent two more boxes of kitcenware stuff and some new sheets and a very nice throw.  Hopefully he'll like them.  When are they allowed to have an apartement off base?  I think he told me it had to do with rank and possibly being there for at least a year.

Happy Wednesday!  We are suppose to get more snow but not much and the temp is a little warmer around 29, heat wave. LOL  Hope everyone is fine.  Anyone heard from their sailors?  What's new with them?  Still waiting to see where Sephen is going, I think he is going  to start asking, he has been waiting for months now, someone make up their minds. LOL  Oh well we know the Navy!!!

I know Pam.  It sounds like your son is doing great and they are keeping him very busy.  LOL I am glad he got his box that is so nice that they get items from home.  Stephen went into the Navy with no bills so that was nice.

Ladies have a wonderful weekend!

Comment by Pam on January 21, 2011 at 3:48pm

Debbie - So sad about Stephen's friend.  And he wants to do the right thing and show his respect, but that's not always easy in the military.

I think my son has the shopping bug also, even though he's a boy!  Luckily he went over there with no bills except for his internet and phone. Oh to be 21 with no bills again!!

He has however started a very intense EMT course that is kicking his butt!  He has been training and studying since April and he's soooo tired of it!  Poor thing.  On the bright side, he received his packages today (finally after the delay in Atlanta from bad weather) and he's happy he has some of his "stuff" to make it feel more like home instead of a hotel room!
