Field Medic Training Battellion - it's Navy Corpsman training with the Marines. They learn field medical techniques and the ways of the Marines and once they go through the training they can be attached to a Marine Unit rather than a Navy one, we call it going green side instead of blue side. The training is kind of like a boot camp, very intense and physical.

Sharon, I went to Capri when we went to visti Stephen, it is beauiful. Boy the boys have been in around the same amount of time. Yes time does go by way too fast. Sounds like exciting things are coming Devin's way. What is FMTB? Sorry I have a IT not a corpsman. LOL

Carrie that would be so great, kids already know each other now we need to meet.

Thanks Sharon - I'll check out that group. It seems the class that graduates after Jamie's also has to go through FMTB. Things may be heating up in the Middle East. Scary, scary, scary! Not sure if it's going to be Camp LeJuene or Pendleton. We're in Atlanta, so from what I've heard, he'll more than likely go to CL.

Wow - the entire class going to FMTB, that's something! Has he heard if it will be at LeJuene or Pendleton yet? There's a great FMTB group too Pam! Lots of the moms on the corpsman group have had their kids go through FMTB too if you have any questions about it. My son is putting in to go when his tour in Italy is over, he's been assigned to be there until November 2012. But - they do get deployed from there as well so one never knows, all depends on the needs of the Navy!
Debbie - we got that skype out the door of the Mt too! Isn't that funny! Devin will be in the Navy for 2 years on November 2nd! Amazing to me how quickly the time seems to fly by. Devin turned 21 in July and spent his birthday with some friends in Capri, I think it was harder on me than him! LOL We've learned to improvise on the holidays and birthdays, kinda sucks to not have everyone all together but we seem to be muddling by! Christmas this year will be the first year that all 5 kids are home at the same time in I think 6 years! Have to share with in-laws and what not and just never seem to get on the same rotation. :0)

Carrie, I wish I was going to see my son, kind of missing again. You are going to have the best time. Sounds like Amber is doing great, she is a great kid, I am so glad I got to meet her and talk with her, well I do like her mom too. LOL

Sharon, your son sounds like he is doing wonderful, I wish all of our kids could come home for Christmas, that would be wonderful. Stephen looks out the window also to see the Mt. That was they first thing he showed us when he first got down there on his computer he took it outside and we skyped the mountain. LOL That is the only thing we did not do was climb the mountain we spent too much time at pompei.

Pam sorry to hear that but he will make it soon. Stephen will be in the Navy for two years November 18th. He is just turning 21 so did my daughter in July and so did Carrie's daughter. Stephen will be 24 March 10th another birthday I will be missing, oh well.

Well at lease on the pain pills Stephen is not feeling too much pain right now. LOL

Well, Jamie's assignment to Italy has been put on hold. Orders came down today that everyone in his graduating class has to go through FMTB before they go to their duty station. I know that all Corpsman eventually have to go through the training and he's o.k. with it because he'll be able to celebrate his 21st birthday in the States and possibly Thanksgiving and Christmas. I really think he was worried about that. As much as he joined the Navy to travel and "see the world" we've always been a close family and enjoyed the holidays and summer vacations together. So, he will eventually go to Italy, but it will more than likely be after the first of the year!

It's really easy for them to get out and travel, the trains are convenient and flights are not too expensive. Since he's been there Devin has been to Rome several times, Malta, Sorrento, Ibiza, Madrid Spain, Capri...there's more but those are the ones I can remember! They rotate shifts, I think it works out to be 1 full weekend of being on duty a month and then a once or twice a week he is on for 24 hrs at time and then they have just regular days where it's 7-3 shift. He hasn't complained so I figure it works out well for them. Devin also made the Honor Guard recently, not sure what that entails but he was happy about it! There is a lot to do there, and Devin looks out his window at Mt, Vasuvious (sp?) :0)
That's a bummer about the stones! Hope they pass soon, that can be quite painful!

Capodachino sounds like a good cup of coffee to me!! LOL. I don't know, hanging out in Venice sounds very nice to me too... How exciting. It sounds like although they are stationed in Naples, they still can travel to other places. That's awesome.

Thanks a bunch for all the information. He graduates from A School next Wed. and he's hoping to be Italy by November.

Sorry ladies I made a mistake Capo is the smaller base that is where Stephen is. Amber is on Support Side, that is the bigger base. How could I forget that, I was just there. Pam your son will be on my son's base!
Comment by Debbie (Stephen's mom) on September 20, 2010 at 9:39pm
Capo is the big base. Stephen is on the little base, Capo is a really nice base. Carrie wait until you see the NEX, it is sooo big! No we will not be going to Italy again, he is putting in for a job in Jacksonville, FL and he will be doing his job in a chopper, keep you fingers crossed he really wants this and I want it he will be closer to home. I will keep you updated.

WOW Sharon that is so cool. He is learning so much, that is so wonderful. Glad you stopped by to say hi! YEA he is coming home for Christmas, that is so wonderful. Stephen has talked about coming home also so we will see. He can only put in or leave a month before he wants to leave.

Carrie what is the count down now? You are going to have an amazing time.

So far Stephen has not passed his stones yet, feel bad for him.
