While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

There are about 50 Sailors who start in each class--at least that's how it was when mine went through--40 something finished. I was going to get the picture and count, but that is too much trouble. I haven't seen numbers in a while.

My Sailor arrived on Sunday in October 2008 and started class the next day, but there were several in his class who had been waiting to "Class Up" for up to 2 weeks. There are few who wait longer than 2 weeks. They do a lot of cleaning and they can start the orientation things so that they can go ahead and Phase up.

A new group starts each week.

Comment by lemonelephant on August 9, 2011 at 1:15pm: bcmadness, the choices for duty stations all depend on the needs of the Navy. There are usually 3 or 4 choices, but not always a lot of openings in some, and those Sailors with the highest scores get to pick from the billets offered first. There have been times when there was no choice and everyone went to a certain place--this is very rare though. So encourage your daughter to do well so that she has a choice.

In other words, does he get liberty to go off base? What restrictions are the first few weeks? We were planing on going out to see him and so is his girlfriend. Maybe before his graduation.

Comment by lemonelephant on July 29, 2011 at 10:11pm: Yes, he can have the cell phone and laptop right away, although he cannot use them except on off hours. Those are not prohibitted by the phases. Phases regulate wearing of civilian clothing and Liberty. Yes, take them to him at the airport and save yourself the shipping fees and he can have them right away.
