Im not sure exactly what base he is on all I know is he is in San Diego and just bought a used car. Now my worry really begins because I know how he drives. Like a cop in pursuit!

One thing is certain...We all have strong children!

I like snow until January...then I am tired of it!

Splash -yes he is fine now but now tends to get ill quickly.

Noni- He had never seen any snow other than flurries. Now he hates snow. I cant blame him so do I.

Noni-Splash-Oleander-My son is out today trying to find a car to buy. He said the base was huge and it was dangerous for pedestrian traffic.

I've heard over and over about how sick our kids get at BC. My daughter heard that she shouldn't go to the Dr also, but eventually had to due to a horrific headache (migrane?) where she couldn't open her eyes. They determined she had brochitis and had a 104 fever. These kids of ours!

DC is mostly firefighting but also flood control and some EMT. Her asvab was pretty high and she had several options but chose DC. Her senior Recruiter (female) was also DC and loved it. So far so does she!

Kingman AZ! - been thru there many times on our way to Scottsdale/Phoenix where my sailor competed and trained.

This is great info, thanks for the car discussion. It's top on our list in the coming days.

splash, we bought my daughter's car here. She drove it to SD. It's titled as illinois car due to Ca. Having soany restrictions on the emissions there.

FIBroomie...Is your son ok now? that can take a long time to heal from. I think they get so run down in BC that if they do get sick it is worse than usual. . My daughter got really sick in boot camp and was SIQ for almost 3 weeks. She was in the ER three times.  I cannot believe she passed but she is extremely strong willed. She was told not to go to the Dr while in BC or she might be sent home so she did not. She was running and collapsed with a 105 fever. She did not fully recover until about April. She became anemic as well. This is a healthy physically strong girl. She was a competition cheer leader.

My oldest told me that when my girl was taking her last run test she said she thought she was going to die. And when they yelled the remaining time she told her sister that she ran as fast and hard as she could because if she did not pass she would not be able to see me the next day. I was adopting her for Thanksgiving. I cried when I heard that.

Oleander...What does DC do? We are not with USAA. We use GEICO.  We used our credit union for the loan 2%). And kept the car registered in Minnesota. She does pay insurance rates for CA because that is where the car is located. My oldest lives in Kingman AZ and bought the car at a dealership there because she knew someone that was linked to the dealership. Then my sailors twin brother flew to AZ to visit that sister so it was the perfect opportunity to drive  the car to SD for my sailor.

Orlander, your daughter will need a car the bases are huge. When my daughter gets off the Princeton she has to walk a half a mile to get to her car. In their uniforms it's stifling hot. My daughter's ship was in dry dock when she arrived in SD. She had to report to another ship until it came out. Luckily once swo school was over her ship was taken out of dry dock. Her job right now isn't what she went in for. She is at this job until she gets her SWO pin then she will will either be stationed in SF or go to MIT in Boston. I also recommend USAA

FIBroomie, we had a very hard winter when your son was here at GL. If I only knew who have children here I could help out in some way. Sorry he had a bad experience.

Morning! Oh no FIBroomie- that's terrible! My daughter was SIQ for several days prior to their last PFT . She was pretty nervous about it, the run was the hardest part for her. She's a great swimmer and a phenomenal horsewoman, but running....not so much. She made it though! She is DC- Damage Control.

Interesting discussion about cars - we sold her car while she was in boot. It wasn't fit for driving back & forth across the desert. We've wondered if we should wait until she reports to find out exactly what's happening w/ her ship. Are you all with USAA? They have new & used cars for sale on their website and they've told me that if a car is purchased thru them there's a discount on the insurance. I've had my home and our cars insured thru them for many years - so far they've had phenomenal customer service and I would recommend them highly. You can look on their website or call, they work with you to find a car in whatever area you need. Just a thought.
