FIBroomie...yes all of the bases are huge. I was there in March and was really surprised at their size. Do you know how long he will be in SD? Will the Navy ship his car to HI?  I would tell him to ask around for referral to auto dealers. My daughter ran into some big promlems and we finally bought her a car in AZ (where my oldest lives). Although she is a girl that knows nothing about cars. Until he gets a car I have heard that there is a shuttle on base and the other sailors are usually really good at giving rides. Which base is he on?

Splash- yes his PIR was 12-5-15. He has been stuck at GL since graduation and finally got to SD on Sunday. He is in SD to finish his GM training and then goes on to be stationed in Pearl. He has already started shopping for a car says the base is too big to get around on foot.

Oh yes I agree. My daughter didn't go to GL. She went to OCS in RI. So she is a Coronado Island? Great places to eat there.

Noni...I feel bad for all the kids from southern states that wnet to boot camp in the winter. What a shock!

My daughter is not on a ship. She is on the Amphibious base.  She works with the Sea Bees.

haha - hi FIBroomie. My daughter felt the same way, we live in Nevada. She can't wait to come home this week and on to SD!

it is so nice to see some activity on this group. When my daughte went to SD in January there was very liitle action on any of the groups. I mostly talk to moms on the PACT group and quite a few of us ended up with kids in SD. So we have that connection.

FIBroomie...you are on my list of friends. Did your son have PIR Dec 5th?  My daughter is from Minnesota so the weathe in GL is similar...she LOVES SD and says she never wants to come back to MN. She loves the beach and has a lot of fun. She is on the Amphibious base Coronado.

My son is a GM and just arrived in San Diego yesterday for "C" school. The minute he stepped off the plane he was a happy sailor. He is from Florida and the weather in Great Lakes almost killed him

Meant to add that she is DC - Damage Control
