For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Don't assume the enemy is not trying to collect information on you so he can kill you, he is!
Be smart, use your head, and always think OPSEC and COMSEC when using email or phone!
Rules of thumb for parents and loved ones:
*If your sailor indicates to you they can't tell you something, believe them. Don't try to coax them into telling.
*If it is published by the navy about where a ship or unit has been (not going), that is when it's okay to share.
*If your sailor is in a high security area, say a nuke or EOD, consider using a nick name for them and you, a seperate email without your name on it, and don't even tell where YOU live. Let them tell you what they want you to tell others or if they are worried about info, always let them know you are on here. That's why they are careful on here about only putting first names on your profile page.
*Be aware, the OPSEC 10 points are about what they can't talk about. Think about what YOU might share as a parent or loved one of a military member that could cause trouble. You also have a responsibilty.
*Be respectful and teach other parents if they don't know and say too much, no need to be disrespectful or mean to them about it. Just guide them and let them know they maybe need to rewrite or delete the post. There isn't a member on here that wants to cause trouble or harm. They just aren't thinking or don't know.

hello all...........seabee coming in this week (fingers crossed) before deployment!
Joann - my seabee didnt like Port H either! How long does she have to be there? Hopefully it will pass quickly!!!! she is in my prayers, as you are!

Don't be surprised if she 'finds out' a dozen times before she really finds out. Mark's deployment was changed several times.

They could be building schools or hospitals or digging water wells or repairing roads or any number of things.

Joanne--I see him every other Sunday, at least until he moves to Gulfport when my son returns. He's three. Are you sure you'll never be a grandma?

This will be a hard mother's day for me. No mom for the first time, and son deployed. On the other hand, it's my first mother's day as a grandma, since the girl my son married before he deployed came complete with her own son who my boy is adopting. I know many of you are having hard mother's days too . . . so I hope we can share a virtual hug here. Kelley

My boy is the same way . . . he goes through money like it's mercury in a broken thermometer. I hope he's getting it under control now that he has nothing to spend it on in D'Jibouti.

Mark has had them tell him when he had a package, but I can remember him looking for it and getting it from the mail as well . . . just know that sometimes the Navy will sit on it for a week or more making sure it is safe to deliver.

Doesn't matter if you overnight it . . . the Navy will check it out first, then give it to him. So there's no point in paying the extra postage.

Shelly--I sent mine a journal and some writing pens and some colored pencils and books.(well, his mum is an English teacher) If he's musical, a harmonica would be cool. He's asked for Pemmican peppered beef jerky. So I need to find it next. Chocolate was a bad idea: it melted. Packing things in popcorn to cushion them is a good idea and completely edible. My son is on his first deployment too, but he's off by the pirates. Kelley
