Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Hi Everyone,

I just heard from Paul Jr. Ugg...he said he thinks they are going to send him home. Something about not being able to stay out of boot for more than a 150 days?? He sounded tired. He said they won't let him do anything, he has to rest. He meets with the doctor on Tuesday and I'm supposed to get another phone call with an update. I am so bummed right now. :( But, it's God's will, so whatever will be, will be.

By the way, we have been sending letters addressed with his name. He said something about his name needing to have an SR in front, last name first...we didn't do that because we didn't know. Now I'm worried he won't get his mail. Does anyone know?

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words. It is good to know that they really do care about their healing and getting back to being able to train so they can finish what they started. I know that my SR is really upset at this turn of events, because he so wanted to graduate and go on to A School. I am looking forward to getting his letters. I am so anxious to hear from him, because I only spoke to him briefly on Wednesday. I also hope that he will be given a job because it will pass the time and he will know that he is still a useful person.

To MomandDadforMattJ I wish the best for yours and hope he gets to meet my SR. My SR is Matt, also.

Thanks everyone !!

CTMom... Paul will probably be put back in a unit once he has healed because he is just getting there. My son finished in RCU, but I understand that the procedure has changed some since he was there. If they are close to finishes, they will put them with a unit that is in that same time frame.

Our son was able to do the classes and able to train some with the units once his leg was healed well enough that he could start training. He could only train though if a corpsman was with him. They were very strict about his therapy and training. He was also able to do some of his diving training , but again he had to have a corpsman. They will take good care of them.

JaneWilliams... Yes, they will get to write home. They write on Sunday and Thursday as I understand. We got our letters every Thursday. I became a mailbox stalker. I couldn't wait to get home on Thursdays to check the mail. Lots of encouraging letters are needed. If they are there more than a few weeks, they begin to doubt themselves and feel they have disappointed you. After about 3 weeks our son was so disheartened and depressed it really weighed on us.

After they begin healing, they will be given responsibilities and jobs in RCU. Ours was a Yeoman, laundry supervisor, postman and not sure what else. I think he was on restroom cleaning duty for a while too. It is really boring there, so if they will let you send some books, crosswords, etc that will be great. They couldn't have any of that when ours was there.

MomandDad4MattJ...Keeping yours in our thoughts as well.

I hope this helps. I will keep in touch to see how they are doing.

Thank you for your helpful comments. My SR was in his 4th or 5th week. He went Dec 3rd. My SR went to Ship 04 Wednesday, Jan. 9th. Does he get to write home? Was your son well  looked after medically? So your son will be able to continue on and graduate.  My SR really wants to finish Boot Camp. I will pass the message about getting a job. I want him to stay positve!!

My son is there now with Stress Fractures in his legs also, if everything goes well he will finish up in the next 10-14 days..  You will hear from him, typically they get to call home ever other weekend, sometimes more often.  Depending on where he is at in training will determine if he can do other things. When you talk to him encourage him to get involved in the department with some type of job..  this will help pass the time. He will be going to Physical Therapy often and seeing the doctors every week or so.  My son said it has not been too bad there because he stayed busy helping out the RCO's

My SR has been sent to Ship 04 Div 2341 RCU. He has stress fractures in both legs. Will he be able to finish his training in RCU? How will I hear from him?

Thank you again...you are making me feel so much better. I truly hope I hear from him on Sunday. I have so much I have to say and there is so much I want to know..however, I have to cut the apron strings as so many have been telling me, it's just so hard. He is our oldest. I have two younger daughter's who are 14 & 16. It would be great if your son Matt could tell Paul that we have communicated. I think that would make him feel better. I'm praying that he isn't given an option to come home and that even if he is given that option that he doesn't take it.

I'm sure he's feeling better now that he sees he's not the only one there and that he can interact with other recruits. We spoke to him immediately after it happened so I'm sure he was just too overwhelmed.

I will keep you posted. Thanks again and best wishes to Matt!!

Hi CTMom,  your son will have access to a computer only on Sunday's and for a brief time, he will also get to call home every other week (most of the time), and sometimes more often but always on Sundays or major Holidays.  Otherwise he will probably spend a fair amount of time in Physical therapy.Given he was injured early in his training, there is probably not a lot of other things he will be able to do.   My son has been able to have a few books sent to him, but they have to be approved by the RCO. When you write him ask him if he would like any books, I know some of the Halo books have been approved. He can also have a bible (typically a small one due to the lack of space each recruit has). The next time I talk to my son, (hopefully this weekend)  I will pass on your son's name to him. Im sure Matt will talk to him and encourage him to be tough.   I do know the kids love getting letters..  Write often..   Happy to help anytime.

Hi Paces,

I really appreciate you taking the time to post here. It means a lot to me. I feel lost because I can't speak to him so I have no idea where his head is at and what is actually going on with him. I don't know if they are going to give him an option to come home and have him re apply, which I hope they don't do because I hear that never works out. I can't understand why it would take 12 weeks for this to heal, but then again, I'm not a doctor. Do you know what he will be able to do while he's there? Will he have any access to technology? I was told he will be able to call every other week on a Sunday. I also want to know if they'll let him do some of his boot camp while he's there, like the classroom portions. We still haven't gotten the first letter from him, only the box. We are using the SHIP 4 address that a couple of mom's were so kind to post and we're keeping our fingers crossed that he gets them. I just wish I knew if he was ok...you understand...

I'm happy to hear your son is doing well, even though it's not what he wanted. Please thank him from me for his service. :)

Thank you again for taking the time to post.

Best Regards,

Robyn (Paul's Mom)

Happy New Year everyone. I am so sorry to hear about your son's elbow. It has been a while since I have visited, but I like to check in once in a while.  Our son was here for nearly 4 months a year ago with a broken leg. It was a real difficult time, but with encouraging letters, and lots of prayer, they will get through it. He was only one week away from graduation.

I don't have any information on the FIT unit, we just dealt with the medical part. I do know that our son was on a running regimen for about a month. After he finished battle stations and graduated, he was put in THU and continued physical therapy for another 3 months. His total time for RCU and THU was about 6 months. His leg was a complete break in to.

I check in every once in a while just to help motivate. The recruits here have a special place in my heart. Once you have been through it, you will understand. Other Navy Moms really can't relate to what you are experiencing. They all become one of yours. Keeping you all in my prayers. I hope I helped.

Oh, our son is doing very well. He is not doing what he wants, but he will make it. He had a Spec Ops contract, but lost it when he broke his leg. That was the most disappointing part. He won't be able to do what he wants with the physical requirements. But, he is now a 3rd class petty officer in Bahrain.  There will be light at the end of the tunnel. Prayers and Hugs
