It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling! They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call! Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well. NMH for you all!!

Our Matt sounded terrible on Thursday( I think it was just because we always spend the holidays together) , which was the first time he sounded down, but yesterday he sounded really good. He got some computer time and chatted with friends..I will mention Harley's name to Matt, and ask him to encourage him to hang in there. Matt seems to be making friends with guys who are in the same boat ( no pun intended LOL ). Matt said that going to church has really helped him, I asked if he wanted to get back into a regular division but he said no! He is happy to finish up in RCU, apparently the regular divisions have to do a Victory Run around the whole base just prior to graduating, he's afraid he will BREAK again as he puts it. . Best of luck, Rick.
my son is Harley and hopefully he will be following that same group that finshes on 12/21. he goes to the doctor on the 29th, thursday. so i hope he gets good news and can get to phase 4 and finish. just worried about reinjuring himself if he pushes to hard but i want him to finish. he did sound better this week then last week. thank you for your support
Hi there.. What is your son's 1st Name? I will hopefully talk to my son Matt tomorrow.. Maybe someone else there can help to encourage him. My son is one of the Postal Clerks, That has given him an opportunity to stay useful and get out of their compartment a bit. Our son goes back to the Doc tomorrow and will hopefully be put back to a status where he can finish up and graduate December 21. Best of luck..
got a call from my son yesterday. he is still phase 3 and says his knee does not feel much better. he is going to follow a division and hopefully be able to finish some of things he needs to finish. it is so hard to figure out how he feels. if he wants to quit or keep going. i keep encouraging him and never talk of quiting so i hope he knows that i would support whatever he does. he left for bc on 9/20 so he has been gone a long time and still has a ways to go. the group he is going to follow finishes on 12/21 so i hope that he can do all the things with them and finish around then. i know that he wont get to have a graduation and i am sad for him but i really just want him to finish. it is very hard to feel him struggle and it seems like a hard place to be. we did not talk about the run becuase of his knee this is what he is struggling with. any advice on ways to keep him motivated would be great. i write him every day and only talk about him finishing when i talk to him not about him quiting or being asked to leave. so hard
Celynn,
We talked to our recruit today, he did not say anything about anyone having to be done by Christmas or be Separated. He sounds very good, anticipating being moved up to AIT (Advance in Training) this next week after his visit to the Doctor on the 21st. He thinks he will be done by Christmas.
As a Physician Assistant x 18 years I would think your son's stress fractures should be healed by now. Complete fractures typically heal after about 6 weeks, as long as he does not have a Calcium or Vit. D deficiency. Our Recruit was placed on Calcium and Vit D, so I'm pretty sure the med staff would be checking him for those issues with blood work. Of course every case is different. Best of Luck, don't listen to the rumors.. He needs to have a good conversation with his Doctor. Hope you have a Blessed Thanksgiving.
My son would be graduating this week but is still in RCU. i have not heard anything in over a week. i hope that he is not too bummed that it is his graduation week and he will not be graduating until he is better. i know that no news is good news but this is very hard especially with the holidays coming. does anyone know what they do for the holidays when they are in RCU
Celynn...my son went into RCU the day after he received his uniforms (week 4) due to stress fractures in both his feet. The first few weeks were very hard for him, largely due to all the time he had to spend in bed. His orders required that he not be on his feet longer than 15 minutes. All he had to do was read the letters I sent him, so I learned how to send a ton of information on three sheets of typing paper. :) He knew he wanted to finish so he stuck with it, even though it was not ideal. His initial graduation date was 9/28. He was finally declared FFD (Fit for Duty) on (or around) 10/16 and completed Battlestations soon after that. As he completed boot camp in RCU, he did not participate in a formal graduation ceremony. HOWEVER, when we went up to Great Lakes to see him, we were able to attend a ceremony. Expect your Sailor to have to spend some time in THU (Temporary Holding Unit) after his graduation. This time will vary. Rules are definitely not as tight as they are in RCU, but, thankfully, my son will leave for A School sometime this week. We are all very excited!!! Again, although this was not "ideal" timing, he did not have to fly out the weekend he finished boot camp, and we were able to spend Friday afternoon/evening and all day Saturday and Sunday with him. It is SO HARD not being able to communicate regularly when they are in RCU, but that time will pass. I kept assuring my son (and myself) that RCU would soon be a distant memory. It's still not quite distant, but once he leaves for A School, I believe it will be more so. :)
my son went to the doctor yesterday but i have not heard anything. i take that as good news that they didnt find a major issue with his knee and that he will get to keep going and get this done. he has been gone 49 days and i dont see an end in sight so that is very hard.
Celynn, I think in any group you are going to have those people who get depressed over little set backs.. keep encouraging him, this is just a bump in the road for most of these kids.. they just have to realize that. Think Positive!
