It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling! They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call! Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well. NMH for you all!!

My daughter has been in RCU for 2 months thus far. She went there for Stress franctures in her heels (she only one week left of basic when they pulled her) she also had been sick as there division was a sickly group with chickenpox and strep throats and so on. need less to say she was on medication for some pain and then anitbiotics for her strep throat and ear infections. this caused her to get constipated. well she stayed constipated for almost four weeks. finally they took her off base to a doctor who gave her some medication to help her go. in the mean time she is still healing from her "Stress Fractures"
she was moved up to stage four and we were excited that finally we were getting close to the end of this drama. she would have been done tomorrow.
on sunday she called, they have moved her back down to stage 2, they have now told her that she never had stress fractures in her heals and that she must have a bone disease. SERIOUSLY she does not have a bone disease. i know they took xrays for the heels in the beginning so how did we go from stress fractures to no stress fractures to a bone disease? this is just ridicioulus. not to mention that they dont seem to have ANY say in thier treatment nor are they actually able to ask questions about their issues to the doctors. so needless to say they have now told her that they are thinking about seperating her because of a "Phantom Bone Disease". I am beyond frustrated and upset. i have never seen an organization run so poorly in my life. this is the government... what the heck... are all of the doctors the flunkies from real life.
they have also decided that becasue she was constipated that she has IBS and that would possibly be another reason to seperate her. I can assure you that she DOES NOT have IBS.
they dont allow these kids to see their families which helps in the healing process and so on and so forth. they are treated like they are weak and bad for having issues. My daughter is so broken and depressed. she has been on a roller coaster for the last two months now. if the NAVY is going to have an RCU unit than seriously let these kids heal, let them feel some worth and stop knocking them down.
I have never seen such a serious mess in my life within an organization, especially one that claims to teach structure and organization and the building up of people.
my son is afraid his dr on base is going to seperate him. He went to a slightly off base federal hospital and that dr ordered 3 weeks of pt and then back to work. the on base dr must be giving him some indication that he is going to allow him to stay in pt for 3 weeks then instead of releasing him into a division he will send him where the SEP;s go to return home. He said it's their job to try to save the Navy money by getting rid of SR's. My son went from being very excited to now very down. I can tell from his letters his spirit is broken. This is all he has ever wanted to do. Why are they so harsh? If he isn't going to be able to stay just send him home instead of toying with them. He said he hasn't seen daylight for over a week. Little things like that mess with your head.
I keep trying to be positive with him and just say stay focused on why you went and whatever you do don't give up. Easy for me to say this right?
It sounds like when they get sent to RCU they get almost punished for being weak. I hate this is happening to my son and the other SR's. I just want them to get better get the support they need from the inside and at home so they can go on to school and learn their trade.
Irishluc, that is one of the worst things I have heard on this site. I am so, so sorry. I cannot even imagine how disappointed you must be.
I called the PA office as well because my son was put in RCU for strep throat for 2 weeks. Well, 2 weeks passed and I hadn't heard a thing so I called and they asked for my son's name and said they would call me back. They did and told me he wouldn't be graduating for a very long time. This was last week. I received a letter today saying he was being released in one day and he wrote the letter on Oct 2nd. He didn't say what division or give a PIR date, so I have no other information, but I won't be calling the PA office as I don't think the information is accurate.
irishluc13, I am so sorry this happened to you. What a mess! I hate you went through all of that but glad you got to spend a few hours with your son even though I am sure that is not how you planned to spend liberty with him. This concerns me. Did your son return to a division from RCU or did he continue training while in RCU?
such good news from everyone! my daughter is in better spirits and i hope to find out what phase she is in Sunday. She says she has no pain so I'm not sure if that will make a difference in advancing in the phases or not.
irishluc, That is fantastic news! I am so glad everything worked out for you!
mazzy...My son had stress fractures in both his feet. He has been in RCU for 4.5 weeks. His feet are healed, but it is taking a while for medical to clear him. I know they do what is best for them. My son told me he is in better shape physically than when he went in. He has been working to complete some of the requirements he needs to graduate while in RCU, but, in doing so, he is probably giving up his chance for a formal graduation. His original grad date was 9/28. Now, we're looking at MAYBE 10/19. We'll see. He has healed faster than we thought he would...praise God!!!
Good News - I talked to my daughter yesterday and she said that she will moving up to phase 4... after a month and half she is finally moving in the right direction. she is looking at being completed on the 13th of October and moving on to "A School" barring no more complications. One can only hope right !
She definitely sounded so much better than she had in the past. I too will so glad to get this process moving forward and i can not wait to be able to finally see her !!
Tea3 - if in RCU your recruit can have books, however they can not have magazine or newspapers.
