It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling! They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call! Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well. NMH for you all!!

Debra, Thinking of you today, and praying for a safe trip home for your son, and a wonderful reunion with your family. HAPPY BIRTHDAY girl!!!
Hi Janet,
I had no time to get on the computer yesterday, but logged in first thing this morning as it's my day off! How delighted I was so see your post, and even happier to read it and hear how wonderful your trip was. Garrett and Greg are both so handsome and look so happy to be back together!
Your post made me laugh and smile, and just plain feel soooooooooo good! I can't tell you how happy I am for you. At long last, you got to see what this boy has been up to since joining the Navy, and I must say it sounds alllllllll good! You have every right to be so very proud of him!
I had to laugh at his recent PFA numbers - he sounds like a beast just like my son, going wayyyyyy over what they are required to do! Amazing, isn't it?!
So happy to have you back, and very thankful you had such a wonderful trip!
HIYA JANET!! I've been waiting, patiently I might add, for you to come back and tell us of your alien-cloned son! How funny is THAT?! That's just a theory, of course, of why these boys leave home, graduate from bc, and turn into model adults! lol How handsome are those guys? Looks like twins! The pic looked better lit on ning. You must be so proud, Janet! There are going to be two sailors soon......:-D
I don't know why Jill is soooooo emotional!? It could be that "happy" is in short supply from our SR's so she's vicariously living through YOU! But, you know what I think? <whispering> I think she secretly hates that I changed her name to Jillian when I use an exclamation point! Right, Jill?..... Actually, I teared up too! <sniff!>
Missed you lots, Janet! Thanks for sharing! And YOU wanted a search party, Jill, but I wanted to bother her by calling her hotel room!! lol......A vacuum!?! Who knew?!?
I know I didn't do any cutting and pasting with my post, so I'll see about attaching a picture here. This is my boys doing the video game thing while we were there. It really was a joy just to have them together doing the stuff they would be doing if we were at home.
The picture looked really dark, so I'm not sure if it will post well, but here goes...
Thanks, Jill. I've now read through all of the posts since we left and am on pins and needles with the rest of you waiting to hear from your SRs. Jill, I'm thinking happy thoughts (and sending my prayers too) that you'll hear good news from your son really soon. The not knowing and not hearing is always the hardest part. No matter what direction it goes in, we're all with you on it and frazzled right along with you.
BTW, when you write a long post and go over the 4,000 mark, it stops you, turns the box pink and tells you you've exceeded the 4000 max. limit. I hit that with my last post, so I edited it until it fit -- I could have done a second post, but I couldn't decide where to break it so I decided to just shorten it instead.
Janet!!!! Thank goodness you posted something today! BoomMom and I were just about to call out the search parties!!! lol Your post made me cry happy tears of course, I knew it would, just been waiting for you to update us. Things are way way too quiet with you gone! Prayers of thanks to God today that you had such a wonderful visit, and welcome home. :)
BoomMom: how on earth did you know exactly how many words this holds???
Debra11: Tomorrow is your day! We will all be thinking of you, and all the hugs you are going to get. Keep us posted please, we get pretty emotionally invested in all these kids....
No news on my end really: biting nails this week waiting on that phone call or letter, the news COULD range anywhere from "I'm a Sailor" to "back to phase 3", to "Sep'd"..... and it truly could go any direction...... I don't think I could be any more frazzled if I stuck a hairpin in the electrical outlet....
Big big BIG WOOHOOOS for Janet again....
Good morning Ladies... Well, we're back! San Antonio was lovely, and the base at Ft. Sam Houston is huge and beautiful. Of course, seeing our son was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!! He looks exactly the same, but he is definitely a different person from the one that left us back in October. He is so much more mature that I (honestly) can't believe this is the same person. He thinks ahead to what is coming up for him -- I can guarantee that he NEVER thought about consequences or anything like planning ahead before this. The Navy really has helped him grow up and mature. WOW!!!!
First thing last Saturday when we saw him was that he wanted to go shopping for civilian clothes. They continue to have the Phases while in A-School, and it's the same as in RCU. They start at Phase 1 and hope to phase up quickly. Phase 1 is wearing only the Navy issue clothing. Phase 2 is when they can wear civilian clothing. Our son had phased up to Phase 2 on Friday before we got there, so he was dying to wear jeans. He bought jeans, t-shirts, normal tennis shoes, and a vacuum (that was one of those shocking purchases with the changed person things...) He said they were going to be having a big room inspection later in the week and he wanted to be sure everything was perfect. Really, who is this person??? Thinking ahead to later in the week???
In case you were wondering, he DID fix our computer in about 2 minutes. We spent some time just hanging out in our room and the boys just played games on the computers, and he fixed our computer that first night. It was nice just having them relax and do something so "normal" together. Of course, I never touched the computer again during our trip, so I didn't have a chance to post during all that time.
We had a lovely Mother's Day. Since it was the weekend, he was able to spend all day with us. He didn't have to be back to the base until 10pm, so we ended up going out to breakfast, going to the River Walk, going to the IMAX movies, having lunch, just shopping again, and basically just spending quality time together. It really was a fantastic Mother's Day!! I couldn't have asked for a nicer thing than having our family together again. Of course, each evening was strange with having to drop him off and leave him at the base. It just didn't seem normal to me.
The rest of the week, he was busy with various things until about 4:30pm each evening. So, we ended up going all over the place in Texas without our sailor. The rental car company might want to rethink that unlimited mileage thing. We put OVER 1400 miles on that rental car. One day we went to Corpus Cristi and toured the U.S.S. Lexington and went to the Aquarium down there. We went to the Botanical Gardens next to Ft. Sam Houston, then also to a couple of museums that are actually on base -- very interesting history there. Different things every day. The day we had to take our other son back to Austin to the airport (Wed.), we drove to Dallas to see my uncle -- which was an added bonus for us. We made it back each evening to see our sailor though, no matter what we ended up doing during the day.
The only day we didn't get to see our boy was on Friday. He had a PFA during the day, and then had watch that evening (which I found out means he sits at a desk where they enter the "barracks" and checks people in and out.) He had me completely worried about the PFA telling me he sometimes had pain when running still. However, he called us when he finished to tell us that he passed the PFA with NO PAIN whatsoever in his legs. What a relief that was!!! He was so proud of himself... 125 sit ups in the 2 minutes and 63 push ups in 2 minutes, as well as finishing the run with no pain. Things seem to be looking up for him on that.
Thanks to all of you for your continued support and good wishes. It really was special for all of us.
1ProudMom, I'm sending you a private message about your questions. Sharon
Tracy - Did you ever get your call?
Debra - Enjoy having your boy home!! What a wonderful gift!
boomMom - My daughter sounded a little better today. She is still discouraged. They x-rayed her foot again last week and verified the stress fractures so they are no longer trying to pass it off as tendinits due to a previous injury. This is a relief (as there was never a previous injury).
Any of you veteran Moms that have dealt with having a child medically separated due to stress fractures - Does your child receive any type of compensation? My daughter was saying that from what she's heard the docs will say that those that end up with stress fractures have osteopenia (weak bones) and that is the reason for the stress fractures so the Navy does not offer any type of compensation. Funny because in my daughter's almost 20 years, she's never had any other type of broken bone or fracture. Anyone have any more details on this?
Patrick's Mom,
Yes, he does want to re-enlist; he hopes it's possible. At this point, he says he's going to do everything he can to get healed, and ready to go back.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers; we (& others in our situation) certainly need them!
