It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling! They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call! Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well. NMH for you all!!

I'm glad that I'm hearing all good, positive feedbacks from your SRs Sharon, Janet, and Jill!
Sharon- most of us take for granted that we can go out and take a walk when we feel like it (although we don't!), isn't that right? Now, "real" bacon and eggs has got me questioning exactly what are they feeding our SRs?!? ...probably took out all the "good" stuff like cholesterol? lol {{{Sharon & son}}}
Janet- hoping you hear from him soon, either way because the suspense is killing ME! LOL :-P
Jill! Freudian Ship! Bwahahaha! My son would love that one! I'm glad your SR is advancing (probably at a pace just enough to grit his teeth, though). I sent puzzle books last week, or was it magazines....oh rats! I can't remember! Might have been both. It just arrived (according to usps) yesterday. I send my son all kinds of picture; which one is your son talking about? It probably is the one of Navy2011mom's son! LOL! I sent it, not because he needed to remember what he looked like, but to let him know that I had this other Sailor's picture and not HIS!! I sometimes need to remind him that he should actually be trying to get out of there and not enjoying the amenities! Just kidding...sort of! ;-P
I still haven't received a letter (or call---whew!) yet-- what's up with that?!? I guess I got spoiled these past weeks. Anyway here's to communications from our SR's this weekend!! <clink!>
Got a letter yesterday! All is well, still in Phase 2, but he has been cleared to begin some of the other PT routines that all the other Phase 2 guys have already been doing, including the pool, which he loves. He says that's a hard workout, but very fun. He and the other guys are enjoying the puzzle magazines, so I will send some more this weekend.
BoomMom, Navy2011mom, and Sharon: He mentions all your sons. BoomMom, yours got the picture that you sent, Navy2011mom: He still gets to see your son, as he gets to "visit" even though he's in THU, they all enjoy it when he gets to come hang out. Sharon: Both my son and your son are very optimistic about your son's path, which was so good for me to hear. I was so worried about both of them. Mine is not Port Watch anymore, he had to give it up because of the time involved, which he no longer has due to the increased PT time.
He also confirmed what we've been hearing about not being able to finish the training at RCU anymore, everyone will not go back to a division when it's appropriate. No one is very thrilled about that aspect, and no one really understands why that decision was made either.
He was also laughing at me, because he just now received one of my old letters, which was delayed because I had managed to take his old Ship 03 address, mesh it with his new division # in 04, and mailed it. I wrote him back and told him it must have been a Freudian Ship.. I mean Slip.. Ha
Haven't had as much time lately to comment on all your posts, but I have been glued to all of them as usual, you are all foremost in my thoughts. Janet, I think my stomach ended up around my ankles when I read that you have another son enlisting, but I put it back where it was supposed to be, and am thrilled for you. :)
Hoping for news for all of you today or this weekend!
Sharon... I'm so glad that your son got the chance to call you. Just hearing his voice is, I'm sure, a relief. You can always tell how they really are from hearing their voice, can't you? Hopefully he won't have to spend too much more time there before coming home to you. Is he able to have (a form of) Liberty while in Seps? Hoping he can just get out of the building and do something for himself while still there. He's been cooped up in RCU for so long that I'm hoping he has some freedom now. (Just my curiosity kicking in again...)
Thanks so much for the update, Sharon! You and your family are still in my thoughts and prayers!
-Janet
Hello ladies; congratulation to Navy2011Mom for your younger son enlisting. Boy, I don't know if I could take both my kids being in the military but you must be extremely proud!
And Sharon, it sounds like your son is taking the separation well and is looking on the bright side, that's great. I'm also trying to look at the positive if my son comes home, that he'll get to sleep in his own bed and be back with us. No news yet, which is I guess is good.
Goodnight all - here's hoping for some calls and letters soon!
My son was able to call us today which was wonderful for this mom. We had nearly an hour so I got to ask him lots of questions and get answers, answer some of his, discuss medical/orthopedic care when he gets home and just listen to him vent. He sounds better today than he did on Friday when he called to tell me of his pending separation. He said it is the little things he has come to miss such as going for a walk when he wants and real bacon and eggs! There are lots of books to read and videos to watch but not much else to do other than wait while in Seps. I think there are 90+ guys in Seps as of today.
He hopes to see Legal either tomorrow or Thursday. Once that is done, his paperwork will be processed within a few working days as he in not appealing or asking for a waiver. He may be home by the end of next week. I think they get a two day notice of when they will fly home. He said there are pay phones on the first deck of the Seps unit where he can make a 20 minute phone call, however, you have to sign up for a time to use the phones (more SR's than phones apparently). He said he will try to call tomorrow or Thursday to let us know where he is in the process.
As always, thank you for your kind words and prayers for him and our family, Sharon
BoomMom... I haven't heard anything from my son today, but I'm hoping for the best. If only we had known he would end up staying there so long, we could have flown out and seen him in Great Lakes. As far as I know, he expects to receive orders to fly out on Friday, but until he actually gets them, I just don't know. I'll be sure to let you know once I hear anything for certain. This hurry up and wait thing with the Navy is probably going to give me a FULL head of gray hair -- my hairdresser will be thrilled, I'm sure -- ROFL!
Luckily, my younger son is on the high school track team, so he runs all the time -- maybe we won't have the stress fracture problem with him -- and he does drink LOTS of milk -- LOL! The recruiters are already starting with him and the PT to prepare for RTC (lots of push-ups), so hopefully things will go smoothly for him through the boot camp thing. I can't imagine what it would be like for him to be done in the 8 weeks versus the 5 months we endured with our older son. I guess time will tell.
Hoping for letters and calls for all you ladies this week, just so we know what is going on with the SRs. ;))
Hi Janet - I should lament at the news of your youngest son, but I'm thrilled for him! There's nothing wrong with RTC, just RCU! Tell him to start his PT NOW, drink lots of milk (strong bones!), and don't get injured while in bootcamp and you'll both come out of this just fine! And tell him to listen to big brother! ;-) Is Friday, 20th, still on? I hope so!
Hi Debra... Whether the first week or any other week, I'm sure it's tough -- having finally made a plan for your future -- having a direction and pursuing that, then to be turned away, will be difficult no matter what. Self-worth will suffer, unfortunately. Possibly the feeling of not being wanted. All these kids are going to have a difficult time with something like that. My heart goes out to your son's friend and his family.
Well, it looks like our youngest son will be joining the Navy as well. He got his contract last week, so it looks like we'll have both of our sons there -- YIKES!! I certainly hope that things get better at RTC before he has to go. He will probably be leaving in mid-September, so there's a bit of time for everything to level out.
Hi Patrick's Mom,
I'm sorry to hear about his friend too, I was surprised he messaged me on Facebook already. But I wonder, since he hasn't been through anything yet, will it be worse for him or someone like my son, who's been through 5 weeks of boot camp, 9 weeks of RCU and then has to leave? I don't know :(
Debra, I'm glad you found this group too, but also sorry you didn't find it sooner. With a child in RCU, these ladies are priceless! The support the amazing ladies here provide is beyond anything I ever expected when I discovered Navy For Moms!
So sorry to hear about your son's friend. How in the world did a Recruiter approve him if he had this skin problem? So sad to think of what he's gone through to get to where he is, only to be separated and sent home. = (
