RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Thanks, Angie.  I don't know if he's appealing or not as he didn't say.  We haven't heard from him this weekend - yet.  I sent you a private message,  I did find the ship 5 group, read through the posts and yes, there is lots of good information there.

About 2 weeks ago my son went back to medical, this time saw the physician assistant, told him he was still having pain, and was put back to Phase 1 (!!!!!!!) and given crutches!  He asked for a second opinion and saw the doctor who said he didn't need crutches and something about maybe the fractures are not healing.   I am not sure how many different physicians and/or physician assistants he has seen while in RCU.

He sounded sad and resigned when we spoke.  When he told me he was being separated, all I could say was, "I'm sorry'. He told me he was sort of expecting it.  as it seems since the first of April there is a bit of a shake up going on in RCU.  There is no more advancing in training at all while in RCU.  Even if you were week 6 day 3 when you were sent to RCU all SRs will return to a division and not be able to 'graduate' out of RCU.

He said several guys were told they were being separated the first week in April and he learned he was being separated on Thursday. It sounds like more SRs will head there next week as he told me that 'now that I've been through it, I can help my friends who are heading here next.'  He said they have exchanged contact info and plan on keeping in touch with one another.

He was told he could re-enlist in 6 months.  Someone told him that only 2-3% of those separated do come back.  As of Friday, he wants to re-enlist.

Something else he heard is there are approximately 30,000 recruits heading to Great Lakes within the next year so I'm wondering if that might be a factor in all of this separation from the Navy activity.

That is it from me for now.  Thank you for your thoughts, words of inspiration and prayers.  I will keep you posted.  Thanks, Sharon

Sharon, I am so sorry.   Have you joined Ship 5 yet?  There is a lot of good information - he can also fight the discharge and apeal the decission.   Bonus of ship 5 - they eventially get a 20 minute phone call a day and can get on the internet for 6.00 an hour.  Downside of ship five - it is very boring and depressing, after they see legal and if they don't fight the discharge it takes around 2 - 3 weeks for you to get a call and they give you a two day notice, and it is so weird my daughter says everyone gets in a group and they call out the list of who is leaving.   If you have any questions, message me - prayers go out to you.

no call yet either

I haven't gotten a call today; it's been at different times of the day so I'm not sure when to expect it, but it's usually happened by now.  I'm also wondering if my son went back into a regular division yet.  I would think if he did I would have gotten an 'official' call with the new division #, but I'm not sure...

no, not yet mackay214. It's a little early, I think. My son usually calls about 11 or Noon Hawaii time, so it would be about 4 or 5 in the afternoon in GL. Here's hoping they call, either way! Stand fast, Ladies!

Woke up this morning with you and your son on my mind Sharon.  Forgive me for not asking yesterday, (I was so concerned about you), how is your son doing with all this and how did he sound when he called?  You're both so on my heart, and I'm continuing to lift prayers for you.

Well said! All of our loved ones have grown up during their time at Boot Camp. We all wish for the best but never truly knows what lies ahead. Prayers to all!

Another thing I wanted to add is that no matter what happens with my son, he has matured tremendously since he's been at boot camp.  When I'm on the phone with him, sometimes I just can't believe it's him.  So....if it's not God's plan to keep him in the Navy, I know he'll come home a stronger, more mature adult, ready to face whatever challenges he comes across because of his experience here.
