MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

tks4..I can't believe she spent a whole year in SEPS.  Was she fighting her case?  My son has only been there 2 weeks and he is going nuts not doing anything.  He will hopefully come home tuesday or wed. next week.  Not seeing her and knowing she was in SEPS for that long must have been the worst year of hers and your life.  That is rediculous.  I think she needs to get a lawyer, go to the tv and expose as much as possible to the media.  I worked for a plastic surgeon in surgery and the trigeminal nerve is the most important nerve in your face and the one they avoid cutting when they are performing face-lifts.  Good luck to both her and your family.  Thank you for sharing.

I understand all of the frustrations going on here. My daughter was the one injured by the dentist there and when she finally went to ship 5, it was almost a year before coming home. They did allow her to come home for thanksgiving and Christmas. She had to pay for it but at least she got to get out of there for awhile. I hated to take her back to the airport to go back. She did say on Fridays they went to a group off base (I think)and got to have pizza. The only reason she got to come home for good was by signing paperwork without that they said they would keep her there another 6months. The navy said what was done was not their fault so she only gets 10% disability. I think she is now at the point where she is ready to tell her story through newspaper or tv. Also calling a lawyer that deals with military cases for advice.

I received the first of four letters from my son today! Yay! I am so happy to have received those!
Still haven't received his box of belongings yet.

camilleann - My daughter finished 7+ weeks of boot camp (all but her run and battle stations), spent the next 9 weeks in RCU and this coming Monday (the day she's heading home) will be 2 weeks that she spent in SEPS.

I'll continue praying for each of you that your sons/daughters get home to you soon.  I had an appointment for her next week with an orthopedist but she called today and said that they don't send them home with their med records.  They mail them and they won't arrive for approximately 4 weeks..... :(  Crazy to me BUT nothing I can do to change that so we'll just deal with it and make the best with what we're dealt.

Hang in there.

that's a great idea i will tell my son to do the same if he hasn't already.  I am sure you will you are over joyed with excitement knowing you will see your son tomarrow.  I can't wait until I am feeling that same way next week.

1proudmom, was your daughter in SEPS for 4 months?  I can't imagine one day let alone 4 months.  Hope she is well.

Wow, i hope they give my son a plane ticket since he is coming to Cali. but I told him don't be suprised if it's a bus or train.  He doesn't care just as long as he gets out of there next week.  I feel bad for him because all his buddies that he has made friends with are leaving Monday and he will be in there without them for at least a day or two longer.  Yeah once you are out processed they are no longer their responsiblity.  They could care less what happens to them after they give them the final tix home.

1proud mom you should be thankful your daughter is coming home on Monday.  I just called Seps admin to find out when my son is coming home and they said not Monday but Tuesday or Wed.  I am sure he was crushed when he didn't see his name on the list today.  I talked to him earlier and he is very distraught and everyday he is there it is a living hell.  I feel your pain crebew5.  HELPLESS!  This is sooo not fair.

My son called this morning. He is very down and ready to come home. He missed NEX because he got called to legal. Now that he got called to legal he is looking at another week or more in that hell hole. He even pleaded with me this morning to do ANYTHING to get him home. Oh how this made my heart hurt. He told me all about how they had to sit in formation the other day on the ship floor for 16 hrs straight. I can't do anything to help him and this is so fustrating.

Comment by KittyKatz84 on July 5, 2012 at 2:40pm

GoliathsMom - My son came home by train last week. He also had to wear the sweatpants but put the shorts on underneath. Once the train got moving he went into the bathroom and took the pants off.
