All has been quiet on the RCU front. I am just praying that all our kids are healing and keeping a posituve attitude! Not easy, I know.

Great advice TN Navy mom ~ couldn't have said it better! I lived on here when my son was in RCU (sorta still do) haha, except for when I was writing to him, which was practically daily.

Yes, they are definitely still in boot camp. My son could not call one weekend because the RDC said they were too loud! Which made my son unhappy and disgusted, because he was not one of the loud ones. Just like in a regular division.

mitchsmom - Hang in there!!! As hard as it is, the old saying still applies, No News is Good News. Typically they call on Sundays when they get a little time at the NEX. My son was in RCU for 5 weeks but didn't get to call every Sunday. Write write write. Send encouraging cards, funny quotes, funny comics strips. Being in RCU is tough BUT they are still in bootcamp. Theirs hours are pretty much the same. They have duties to perform, inspections, the RDCs still ride them pretty hard. If your SR is down (mine sounded pitiful for a while) tell them to talk to the chaplain. There are chaplains and counselors available.

You, Mom, come here often. We've been through this and you will find that a setback is not a death sentence, these recruits can succeed. Plus, you can cry and vent to us, it's familiar territory.

Have a safe trip Tobianne~I'm soooo happy for you and your daughter, she sounds like a wonderful caring young lady with some great morals and values! Give your US Navy Sailor a great big hug when you see her. Way to go Kayla!!!!!

Toward the end of my son's stay in RCU, maybe the last week to two weeks, he was part of the laundry room crew. I don't know if he volunteered or was assigned, but he liked being part of the crew and liked being productive and having a job to do. I have no idea how recovering recruits are assigned jobs like that, but if your recruit is feeling well enough, they might want to inquire about assisting with laundry or something else. It's worth a try. My son was even in charge for a few days before he left the RCU--he did like that.

julie- I gave Kayla Numbers 6:24 to the end to pray for herself, as well as I prayed this for her. I come from Pentecostal background and that is not one of the chapels there. I had to explain to Kayla to lay hands on herself and ask God to heal her. She also got very productive i the Contemporary church. Today I am bringing a bible to GL for Kayla to give to a recruit in RCU. The young lady ask for one and Kayla said she would buy her one. I Love how some things they do go through in RCU changes them for the GREAT! She now I believe has her vision from God as to what he needs and wants her to do for him.

Hang in there and also pop into the Christian chat group, the ladies in there are wonderful and the POWER of Prayer and God is the answer.

Have an awesome day, he may call today.
I am off to GL a 7 hour drive ahead of me, but what my girl has been through I would drive for days to see her.

I can certainly emphathize and understand why Kayla would want to do it this way. I think my son will end up doing the same. They were both so close, the loyalty to thier Div. has got to be very strong as well. I have not heard from my son in 10 days. I have had to lean heavily on my faith and strength in God with this one. I am grateful that Jake mentioned he was hanging out at church at RCU and has a very good rapport with a chaplain. Smart guy, and I raised in a Christian home. He has seen a few things that I have had to go through with healing, so he knows the power of prayer and of faith. I am dealing with just plain missing him now. It is hard to not talk to them on a frequent basis. That is why I write a lot of letters. I have a big family and also lots of friends writing to him too. I loved what TN Tennessemom shared a page or so back about praying on the phone with her son before he ran his PFA and Battlestation. Thank you, I will do the same.....I know the power behind that, and it changes everything. Your story has helped me.

Sats or Sundays.

Michimom- Kayla said the same about PIR. She said her division is the one she spent 8 weeks with she did not want to take away from a new div. she said they worked hard for what they have and she just does not know them and would not feel comfortable.
