Vicky,
Thanks so much for that info. My sons and I have been through some extremely difficult times and I am so proud that he has not hardened his heart - that I know I will be so proud and break down all at once.

I am so glad you have some people going with you, Sarayu. When I went on 8/21/09 it was just me and my grandson. And it was the 1st time I travelled as a single woman! It was fun! Chicago is a amazing city. I wouldn't want to live there, but nice place to visit. 1) Be sure and get some Chicago style pizza before you leave. 2) Take a shuttle bus to the base Friday morning, you get in quicker then if your are driving. Ask your hotel if they have one.
BEST of all is when they rolls those doors open and your sailor marches in. It is an experience I will never forget. A thousands words can't describe it.

Marsha, when did your son have his PIR?
Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on April 6, 2010 at 7:46pm
Welcome Sarayu! I also took my sister to PIR. She was with me at the hospital when he was born, so it was nice to have her there again and to hand me Kleenex at PIR.
April 23 is right around the corner, and you're going to love seeing that boy again. Then the you can explain to him that he'd better shape up and get better at keeping in touch! ;)
"Afg" is shorthand for Afghanistan, by the way - I know Mike's Mom from the corpsman group & she's wonderful.

Marsha, Vicky and all you great ladies - thank you so much. I am tearing up as I write this. My son, Jim, is going into the IT field. He didn't say much about it other than he will be sent to FLa after PIR. I am going to the PIR and my sister is coming with me and Jim's best friend. Then his dad and stepmom are also going. I took another part-time caregiving to help with costs.

Marsha - I don't mean to be lazy, but I just got home - so what is Afg?

Hi Single Moms, Welcome Sarayu. You are not alone, we are all here whenever you need us. Are you plannig on going to his PIR? I hope you can it is well worth the cost of the trip. I got letters form my daughter about once a week in BC. But girls are better at writing then boys. Just think no news is good news, he is busy working hard. The last 2 weeks of BC is the toughest. Keep writing him even if he doesn't write back. Navy Hugss ~ Vicky

I'm new to this single moms site and am so glad I found it. I started to feel like I was the only single mom out there experiencing this great loss and gain all at once. I'm so proud of my son, but I miss him. His PIR is April 23. Ship 10 division 163.

I am still waiting for a phone call and another letter - everyday it's on my mind. Has anyone received a letter recently?
