Andrea, the place I stayed in was nice. The Sleep Inn in Lake Bluff; Choicehotels.com. Another Navy Mom recommend it to me. When you check in sign up for the bus that goes to the base for PIR. You get on the base much quicker that way. Also be sure and get some Chicago-style Pizza while you are there! Yummy!

Andrea tx - You should get a letter which will let you know of some Motels near by the base.... Now about the box I had to smile cuz I did the same thing with my sons and he hadn't lived at home for 3 years : ) I have now had two go through Navy BC and my youngest will be leaving for Army BC the first of Nov.

Yeah but she put her dirty underwear, socks and bra in the box. It was like she had disappeared. Then she tells me at PIR it is because they have to wear Navy issue underwear. Then when they get to A school they can wear "real' underwear. The first thing she did on her second liberty weekend was go to Victoria's Secret. Ok, that may only apply if you have a daughter, sons may not care about underwear. Lol! I can laugh about it now, but the underwear made me cry back then. Anyway that is why we call it "the kid in a box".

Andrea You should get that book or go on line and see if you can fallow from week to week... Vicky is right when you get that box ( and I have had two children and my third on the way going to BC ) When that box comes just know your child is on his/her way to be coming an adult : ) Be Proud.

Oh good, I'm so glad you can go! About halfway through BC the time will start to fly.
If you're flying on Southwest, you can make an educated guess & make a reservation now to nail down a fare; later if you have to adjust it, the fare may increase but you won't pay a penalty.
