Hi all. There is a great seris just starting on the Military channel. It's called "At Sea". The first was liast night but it will be running all week and will be repeating episodes. Last night thye showed the USS annapolis at the North Pole. Also the USS West Virginia (very cool that's Rob's sub). Also the USS Conneticut I think. they showed what life is like on the different subs. And it was filmed just this pst year so it it very up to date. Hope all get a change to see it. I would think that you might be able to go to the Military Channel on line and check it out also.

Hi Everyone:
Lisa; I don't know if anyone here can answer about the sub operations. Communication is when you get it is what I've been told. Our sailor is the 'silent type' anyway and we don't hear from him. If we do - something MUST be wrong! So, the first words of the call are "I'm fine! Really! So is everyone else." OR, the baby had her surgery and I'm just calling with an update. The ombudsman will help with communication questions - do you have their contact information? They are a very important link for the families. Unless your sailor is married - then they will work directly with the spouse. Please ask away - and Mark is awesome with the technical stuff. Most of the rest of us depend on him to clear away the fog. There is a group on the site for Ombudsman, which I highly recommend. I hope this helps~susan

You are absolutely right, Paula. Workload can vary hugely, especially for the nukes - both underway, and in port.

Lisa,
It all depends on what Nick has done before deploying, especially with his nuke watchstations, which will be the priority, and will take more time than sub quals. If he's already about half-way done with both his nuke and sub quals, he may have a shot, but it'll be tough.

I just got a beautiful letter from my son's Commander telling us that he got his Silver Dolphins. He got them back in May, but the mail took a while to get here because they are deployed. It is a wonderful keepsake and a very thoughtful thing for Miami's Captain to do for us.

WHEW - WHEW Pam! Yipee! Happy celebrating.
Congratulations to Ken - we finally got to see Adam's on his uniform. Made my cry.
Anita, we had thanksgiving dinner last night. It is Adam's favorite meal. His wife made the stuffing, he made the pie, and they learned to make gravy from Dad! It was fun, and Grandma and Grandpa told a WWII story about how many times they had t-day before he was shipped out - and how they got the turkey - and shared with all of their neighbors. Nice evening. Remember, any time is a good time.

Hugs & Congratulations! k.

Congradulations to Ken on getting his fish. Its almost impossible to explain to non-sub or non-Navy folks how incredible that accomplishment truly is for our guys. So here's a big WAY TO GO, KEN!

Hey Anita - it doesn't get any easier - but we do 'un-birthday's'. Started with our grandson (Owen) who is now 9. He and our littlest angel (Brianna 19 months) are December babies. The 19th and the 21st. So, it is VERY tough. I'm thinking we will have an impromptu un-bd party while our sailor and his family are visiting. Have to check with their parent's first to make sure it will work. They are fun. Yup, holiday's are tough too-ours has been in six yrs. Just like time, holiday's are our choosing and don't have to be when the rest of the world does them. Celebrate at every chance you can. :-}
