Just a quick post to say that I'm still alive, but busy with Son! This is Daughter's spring break, so Hubby took off too and we're all together for the week. (This may never happen again!)

I'm stuffing chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins into him like he's a garbage disposal... his room looks like a grenade went off in it... he's messing with me all the time (e.g. rubbing his stubble on my cheek when he hugs me)... razzing Dad on the golf course... and irritating his sister on purpose (e.g. not handing her the phone when her boyfriend calls) until she yells at him and they go running through the house, shaking pictures on the walls...

It's all just delightful! Hugs, k.

Whoops - my mistake, Hawaii is six hours behind East Coast during DST, since they stay on standard time.

Kelly,
I noticed on your page that your son is an officer on the boat. The junior officers have the heaviest workload of anyone on the boat. He is working on qualifying as Engineering Officer Of the Watch and Engineering Duty Officer, so he has to learn everything about the propulsion plant in depth QUICKLY. As on officer, he doesn't actually have a watch to stand in port, but he does have frequent duty, and is responsible for running one of the nuclear divisions, which takes a tremendous amount of time. On top of all that, he is also working on his submarine qualifications, which are much more in depth for an officer than enlisted. The four hour time difference between Hawaii and the East Coast during daylight savings time also complicates contact, since he is often still at work around the time you're thinking about heading off to bed. And, oh yeah - he probably is trying to enjoy what little free time he has in Hawaii, a place that is still quite new to him, that has a lot of activities to offer.

Kelly Plus what Lyn and Paula said remember that they are 5hrs (well for me) difference in time. and yes they can be busier while in port then out on a cruise. What type of sub is your son on. If a fast attack if might be out their schedule is not as predictable for when they go out.It is hard dear , but no news is good news. Also remember how the days get away from you I've had times when I'm meaning to call a friend and it my be a couple of weeks before I get to it.
Anyhow we are here is you need to vent..........and the calls maybe don't happen as often as they did in the beginning, but my son and I talk alot longer when he does call now, Hang in there
peace

Kelly, they really can be that busy. Also because of the strange hours they sometimes work, they lose track of the day of the week. I haven't heard from my son on my birthday since he became a Nuke. Send him an e-mail and let him know you still support him. If he's in port send a small care package. That usually gets me a call or e-mail.

YEA! Okay Grandma-now you have a pirate girl. Daddy will have fun with that if she still has her eye patch when he comes home. My heart is releived to hear your good news Pam. Will keep the healing prayers coming - and rest for Mommy. I missed what happened with your grandson-and am hoping that he is okay too. Amazing how it seems like we get all of this at once-thanks to all of you who supported me. It is a great blessing to be able to give back and hear the results!

Melinda It does also depend on who the person is, but sometimes there is not anybody to cover the jobs.....I think the Navy (all branches) does their very best when it comes to situations like these
