Not really Nancy, "bubblehead" is really just an occasionally used nickname that applies to anyone on a sub, qualified or not. Another one sometimes heard is "tuber". On a boat you also have a couple of other nicknames; the nucs (or nukes - kinda an obvious one) that applies to everybody who stands watch aft of the reactor compartment, and the "coners", who spend all of their time in the "cone", forward of the reactor compartment, and are rarely ever seen back aft. The "A"-gangers do get around a little more though (good for them), they're responsible for maintaining some equipment back aft - mostly hydraulics systems associated with ship's steering and diving controls, and some atmospheric control equipment.

Cool Amber!
My son just finished BESS in Groton a week ago, and is on hold currently awaiting ATT school for sonar. I'll tell him to watch for a boat coming in the next week or so, and strongly encourage him to check out the scene if he can. I know he won't miss the noise coming from the waterfront, anyway...

Enjoy the experience, Amber! It will be incredibly intense - in my head, I can hear all the ship's whistles in the harbor welcoming his boat home with blasts that you feel in your bones...very, very cool. Groton or Norfolk?

Hi Everybody: I know that this may be early - but our computer is a little cranky - we would appreciate prayers for our Brianna. She is 14 months old, and will have her cleft pallet surgery next Tuesday - the 10th. Thanks - my angel blessings ~~S {her Oma}

Weight is always an issue with guys on subs. The food is good and the ability to get a lot of exercise is not very good. Esp. if they are on a fast attack. So they get on them and occasionally threaten dire actions. I wouldn't worry too much about his PT. I'm sure it will all work out.

Sue hope all is well with your husband. I'm glad that your son Brad will be able to come home and be with his Dad at this time. Take care.

You are all so lucky to have them close. I only saw one in person when we took the Grandparent's to see our sailor in WA and drove home via the coast and north western corner. It was the first time in my life, and I was so inspired. This was very rare for us. Hey, if you can post some pictures. My grandson would love it. He wants me to cross stitch one for him - and for him - well, you know! Thanks for sharring!
