I just received an email from the Navy For Moms...they have approved the photo for posting so it should be there for viewing now. That must be a security measure. Glad they do that. Enjoy!

@susan...thanks for your deployment guidance. Support is greatly needed!

Thanks for the warm welcome. The best advice I can give to Moms during the first deployment is to remember that it's a big ocean.  When you read news about trouble at sea, pirates here, storms there, or whatever, don't let yourself start imagining your loved one sailing right into the middle of it.  It's possible they could be-- but they could also be thousands of miles away. The odds are that they're sailing somewhere else, doing their jobs as usual.

I'm sure you'll be lots of help for us too. You're already use to deployment. This is our first.  I also check the San Diego Newpapers. Today they were posting the Samali pirate situation and referring to the Comstock and the other ships leaving today. Our group is just now growing and glad to have you part of it. Where was you son stationed before?

Thanks navynana! That first link is exactly what I needed, and I found the facebook page.  The second link didn't work for me-- maybe you hve to be in the Navy to view it?-- but I'm all set now.

My son is an ET2. This will be his third deployment.  I'm in Northern California (Bay Area).  I'm glad to find this group, it's great to have the support of other Moms.

Can you tell me where to find the ship's web site? My son was transferred to the Comstock just before they left, so there wasn't time to find out about web sites or mailing lists.

Posted picture of the USS Comstock leaving today from San Diego. It's on my navynana page. My grandaughter took the rest on her camera and will upload them for me. They pretty much look the same. The ships move very slowly through the harbor. This was taken on a cell phone. All our Sailors are inside.

I looked on the website and the only difference in address was on the second line

it said to  use      dept/division

my grandson said his dept was ops and division was OIO1

could that be right?

What a day! Navynana sounds absolutely amazing! Can't wait to see pictures! To address mail to the ship I will show you how I address my husband's things and maybe it will help:

Deck/2nd division
USS Comstock LSD 45

Hope it helps a little :)
